Martin keeping us in the game during the first half was so huge man.

We just beat the two time defending champs and a team that had won 13 straight tourney games. Glad we were the ones to slay that giant.

 

I agree. Think they needed this game to believe. Probably the most intense game we had outside of Kentucky. At least fan wise for me. Even Auburn and Bama I never felt like there was a doubt we were gonna win

My goodness! You're not kiddin'! I still am not breathing normally, my pulse is at 95 bpm 10 minutes after the game!

 

On another note, he did expose our weaknesses and the need to pick up better post players.

 

We were 1-5 before this game against them. Our last win against them was 31 years ago. Many of our losses were when on paper, we had the better team. We finally broke this syndrome that we were in with them.

 

I am getting to old for games like that.

We knew UConn was going to be a tough out. What a gut check and Clayton has ice in his veins.

Shot 46% from the field - they shot 37.5%
Shot 47.4% 3 Pt - they hit 27.6%
Had 12 turnovers to their 6
Had 40 rebounds to their 35

Based on those numbers you'd think we won by 30. But it were the intangibles:

- They took 10 more 3s and finished with 8 to our 9
- UConn shot 19 of 22 at the FT, we were 22 of 34
- They had 2 more offensive rebounds and we had more defensive rebounds
- Points in the paint - UConn 32 UF 24
- UConn had a far better assist to turnover ratio - 2.67 to 1 vs 1.00

The stat of the game:
- They took 93 shots, we took just 69
