Remember, that is with your solution of intermittent walls that are breached for economic reason. So what you are saying is that your solution hasn't worked so well at preventing people from crossing? On that, we agree. Your solution has not worked.
At least some of those photos are migrants crossing from Central America into Mexico rather than crossing from Mexico into the US. Edit: I actually did find one of your photos in an article on migrants crossing into Mexico and not only that, it was dated January 2020. If I recall Biden wasn't in the White House back then. Migrants scuffle with Mexican troops along border river Not one of yours but strongly resembles them:
So your plan is to make it harder, but not stop anyone. Again, brilliant. And how much harder is it to cross a wall that has a section cut through it? And you know what they call a billion dollar project that is a complete failure? A boondoggle. No other word better fits Trump's wall.
We don't have anything close to that except for a very small area unfortunately. It's like you are being obtuse on purpose. Weird. Why have any border fence then? F it, let everyone in. Who cares, right? I'm just amazed that people come into a country most of you hate. This is what the US-Mexico border looks like
Where did i blame Biden? I hate trump, so you really got me there... We have a border security issue. Plain and simple. You don't want to do anything about it. When DeSantis is in office I predict something will get done.
You realize that your pictures shows a bunch of pictures of the intermittent wall that you claim is not anything like the intermittent wall that other countries have, right? I am generally against broad immigration quotas. They are an expensive and ultimately fruitless attempts to stop people from filling labor market needs. We spend 10x more than we used to spend on the issue, and you are still here arguing how ineffective the border is and how we need to spend more. If we spent 10x more, the same would happen. It doesn't matter.
Nope. You have no idea how well a well built wall would do to prevent illegal crossings. You are just guessing. Congrats. You're wrong.
Hmm, strange that you don't realize that your own link contains 23 pictures of walls all along the border. But sure, it is totally the next however many billion dollars that will solve the problems, unlike the last $10s of billions.
So in summary, you were asked to name the most secure borders, went with a country with literally open borders and another country with an intermittent wall that has a bunch of holes in it that largely ignores those holes for economic reasons, but are convinced if only we spent some unknown (but large) amount of money, we would have a controlled border with an intermittent wall. And to prove that, you showed 23 pictures of all the barriers we currently have on the border. Sounds like quite a day for you.
I get it, you know the US border sucks. You know i'm right and this is your way of apologizing. Thanks.
Here's a question, @gator95, if a wall doesn't really stop anyone, and only slows them down, is it really worth billions of dollars? The best analog to any 2,000 mile wall along our Southern border is the West Bank, which as a wall about 430 miles long. The West Bank wall is easily breached by ladder, riddled with holes, and the Israelis have admitted the wall is ineffective. If Israel can't maintain a 430 mile wall without multiple holes and breaches, what makes anyone think we can maintain a 2,000 mile wall? All a wall does is throw taxpayer money down the drain. Slowing down immigrants a few minutes at best isn't worth billions of dollars. And when the cracks and holes appear in the wall, the slow down will only be a few seconds. And the wasteful taxpayer spending doesn't even address things like the deleterious effects the wall would have on the environment.
Walls work. People arguing against have their head in the sand. Are they perfect? No. But a well built wall will keep the vast majority of illegals out of our country. Everyone denying it just wants open borders.
Wall work? That's why several pics of the Trump wall in disrepair have been posted, as well as several pics of Palestinians using ladders or making large holes in the West Bank Wall. A wall might work in a small area with 24/7 human surveillance. It's a defensible position that buys time for guards. But 2,000 miles worth of wall, much of it through very difficult areas to reach will be nothing more than a minor annoyance for a short period of time for those who want to cross. The Israeli wall is about 1/4 of the length, and has dozens of breaches. The wall we have already built with Mexico in remote areas have dozens of breaches already too. So I ask again, is it really worth billions of dollars to build a wall that may slow a few people down for a short period, but ultimately stop nobody from coming in? Not to mention, again, destroy an area home to 200 endangered species, that live on both sides of the border.
The only way a wall would truly prevent illegals from crossing into the US would be if it was very well constructed, extended across the entire 2,000 mile Southern border except for those locations that are truly impassable was manned by literally thousands of Border Patrol agents.
Correct. Also entry points that will be heavily guarded. Like I said, money will do the trick. Will save on border agents going forward if done correctly.
If the wall needs to be manned, all 2000 miles, 24X7, how will this save money on border agents? Ever been to the border? Much of it is very difficult to get to, with no town close. The cost to transport patrol, on horseback, to the remote areas that is in accessible by motorized vehicle would be exorbitant. Need to house and feed the horses in a town near the border, plus build stables at locations at the border as well. Then there are flooding and repair costs. A monsoon storm knocked out a large portion of Trump's wall. Summer monsoon storms can dump inches of rain in a short amount of time and cause massive flooding. Water flow and stables would have to be built up with flooding in mind. And helicopters ready to fly in supplies as it can take days for waters to subside. And water always wins. It will eat away at the wall and cause damage. Which equals repair costs.
