It will be interesting to see how Gaetz responds. Does he sue Gonzales for defamation? Does he try to rally the MAGA wing of the party to censure Gonzales? Does he ignore it and hopes it all goes away because it is true and he doesn't have a leg to stand on here?

Actually I was wondering the same thing. Seems like a pretty strong statement to receive without a reply.

But he's never wanting to be in reimbursements from taxpayers on the honor system. In this from a guy with substantial family wealth

More than 300 House lawmakers were reimbursed at least $5.2 million for food and lodging while on official business in Washington last year under a new, taxpayer-funded program that does not require them to provide receipts.

....Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), the program’s overall top spender, was reimbursed for nearly $30,000 in lodging expenses and more than $10,000 for food in 2023. He was reimbursed for more than $4,000 for lodging in two different months and more than $3,000 in five different months.

Of course, some of the lodging expenses may have been inflated by the need to pretend like the 17-year-old had a different room

Matt Gaetz is the top user of new congressional honor system - Kevin Drum

maybe this is more appropriate here

59 years old with a 8?? year old son...45 year old software magnate marries 21 year old college student that he "met" when she was a 17 year old high school student...good old traditional republican family values. smdh, Gaetz must consider him a mentor. can you say grooooomer..she went to college on a scholarship named after Rose's parents..

How Republican Rep. John Rose Found His Wife - The American Prospect

In March 2007, 17-year-old high school senior Chelsea Doss (now Chelsea Brooke Rose), traveled four hours from Eagleville to Gatlinburg, Tennessee, to participate in the state’s 79th annual Future Farmers of America convention. Over the course of three days, her Eagleville High School chapter competed in the state competition, and nine of its members, including Chelsea, won the State Superior award, a top showing. That wasn’t all. Chelsea also won the State Job Interview contest, and was even named the 2007–2008 Tennessee FFA Association state president.

Among the convention attendees was her future husband, the then vice chairman of the board of the Tennessee FFA and current Tennessee congressman John Rose.

Not even four years later, according to an engagement announcement in the now-defunct local paper the Eagleville Times, the two were married. Chelsea was at the time a 21-year-old college senior at Tennessee Technical University; John was a 45-year-old software executive with a long history of involvement in the Tennessee FFA, a board member of both the FFA and chairman of the board at Chelsea’s college.
    ........................
Not long after her triumph at the 2007 FFA convention, Doss received the Jerry and Betty Williams Rose Scholarship, named after Rose’s parents, to attend Tennessee Tech after graduating high school. She was very grateful for that support in a 2010 interview with the Murfreesboro Post, from before the two were married. “John has made everything possible that I’ve done in FFA beyond high school. Through the scholarship that he provides, I’ve not had to have a job through college,” Chelsea said, indicating that the scholarship was secured before she arrived on campus as a freshman. “I’ve been able to train, improve, focus on FFA and focus on school. That scholarship has made all the difference,” she continued. “[John] has also coached me during my preparation, which has been extremely helpful.”[/QUOTE]

Is there any indication whatsoever that there was a romantic, let alone sexual, relationship before she turned 18?

    Absent that, there's nothing here.

...or are you accusing her of selling herself for a scholly?

...and then marrying for money--ie the source of the scholly???

Perhaps it belongs elsewhere--like in the pub, where a benign love story about a regular marriage might go.

    Guess who's back?

Ethics Committee expands Matt Gaetz investigation as it looks into sexual misconduct, drug use allegations

The House Ethics Committee said Tuesday that it's expanding its investigation into Rep. Matt Gaetz, R.-Fla., to include “additional allegations” that the Florida lawmaker sought to obstruct the probe as the panel looks into accusations of sexual misconduct, illicit drug use and more.

Interesting that they are going after him for obstruction. Hopefully, the committee can get something to stick this time. I do not want a Teflon Matt redux.

I'm flying through this, but I am not sure I would call it an "expansion" based on this blurb:

Gaetz was also under investigation by the U.S. Justice Department for allegations that he had sex with a 17-year-old girl and paid for her to travel with him. The DOJ ended the investigation in February 2023 and did not bring charges against Gaetz.

The House Ethics Committee said on Tuesday that it is also dropping its investigation into a series of other allegations against Gaetz. It said it “will take no further action at this time on the allegations that he may have shared inappropriate images or videos on the House floor, misused state identification records, converted campaign funds to personal use, and/or accepted a bribe or improper gratuity.”

Just curious (and I am not a Gaetz guy other than I agree with his policies). But you sure seem to not be worried about whether he is innocent. Instead you seem to want something to stick regardless of whether Gaetz did anything?

All day take a shot at his dui. Or things he has actually done. But I don’t understand the hoping. What if he did nothing wrong?

There doesn’t seem to be much doubt he was diddling around with a 17 year old (why else was he paying her via VENMO?).

Maybe she lied about her age? That happens. She obviously didn’t cooperate much with authorities or didn’t seem credible as a witness (a poster above claimed she went into adult film?). None of this makes Gaetz less of a scumbag even if it makes a criminal case challenging.

I'm sure you're clutching your heart pillow worried about Trump, but if you really mean 'lately', why don't you check in with Comer Pyle and Gym Jordan to see how the impeachment is going?

This does feel somewhat political. It's like "okay we can't get you on the allegations we destroyed your reputation with. So now we're going to invent some process crimes and we'll get you that way." Like the Trump Manhattan trial, without the steroids.
