First, not the car comparison again. People don't buy cars in order to run over someone. They don't take their car to a block party in case someone insults them and they need to run over a bunch of people.
But that's why they buy a gun - to either shoot someone or threaten to shoot someone.

Yes, it's a culture of violence. One in which the gun is the weapon of choice for a reason. The likelihood of two killed and 30 injured without a gun involved?

What a stupid take. Guns are being used for their purpose even if illegally, you can’t say a vehicles purpose is running over people. Besides, wake me up when we have a consistent problem of intentional mass vehicle killings. Do we need to remind you the number of mass shootings halfway though 2023?

    Ahh
    The insults begin.
Do you realize that the discussion centered in gun CULTURE. Do you know what gun culture is? It isn’t just any rando with shin. And that was the whole point. Gun culture is made up of men and women who respect the guns and use them responsibly. Are there bad apples.. sure
Just like car culture is made up of men and women who respect and live cars and drive them responsibly.. are there bad apples that street race while intoxicated? Sure.
I own many guns. I am
Part of gun culture. None of my guns have ever killed anyone. None have misfired on their own accord. None have broken any laws. Of all my friends and family that are into guns.. none have ever had an inside t where they or their guns killed someone’s or broke the law.
Individuals with no respect for life, individuals with anger management issues, individuals who acted no better than animals are the issue not the gun they used.

It was a critique of your opinion, not an insult. In my opinion, your description of gun culture is near-sighted. There are also part of that culture in which people use guns to intimidate others and use guns to perpetrate crimes. You can't just pick the parts of gun culture that suit you.

But also, I would appreciate your thoughts on my previous post about ARs. We may not agree much about guns/gun violence, but I recognize your experience and expertise.

I'd say that is more of the drug culture or the gang culture than the gun culture.

Guns are always the common denominator. Gangbangers are a part of gun culture whether you like it or not.

Optic options for rifles have exploded over the last decade or so. Using a red dot/green dot is very common. I do not know if it was used in Texas but would not be surprised if it was. Granted there are also some great 4x scopes, lobo scopes and reflex sights to choose from so there really is no telling.
As for building your own AR15 and the govt not knowing or have any record. … it would depend on how he built the rifles. If he used serialized lowers then the govt has a record of the purchase. If he use lowers that he had to finish milling out, filing, and fitting (80 percent done) then govt may not have a record. I have never gone that route due to a lack of tools and complete apathy on whether the govt knows I have my guns or not. All of my builds have been with serialized lowers. Besides… most of my guns were most over board in a terrible boating tragedy out in the Gulf of Mexico !!! ;)

Yes, I recall him saying something about boring out something or other (I was a few whiskeys in) and so there were no serial or any other numbers. Did you mean to say that you lost most of your guns in a boat accident?

How long have you been a member of a gun club? A hunting club? How many gun shows have you attended? How many true gun collectors do you know personally? How many people have you trained in shooting?
I own and use a hammer and a saw.. I am not a carpenter. I drive a car(truck) every day.. I’m not in car culture. Hell, I even own and use a boat but I am not in the boat culture either. No one is picking and choosing. The vast majority of these shootings are done by people acting no better than animals. People with no appreciation or respect for human life. People that see and use the gun as only a tool to deal violence. You will find that most people who truly are into guns respect the power and damage they can do and greatly them with care and respect. Hand culture misuses guns as a tool just as in use my car as a tool. Criminal culture mis use guns as a tool much as I use (or misuse if you ask my wife) my hammer and saw.

Given there are no shortage of people like this, does it make sense that they pretty much have free access to guns such that they can shoot 30 people when they feel dissed?

The problem isn’t law abiding gun club owners. It is the irresponsible ones. If you are going to make it easy for responsible gun club members it also makes it easy for the nutjibs.

Let’s wait and see what kind of gun they used, was it legally purchased, and if they are legally carrying said gun.

So you think that most criminal/gang members go through the proper channels to own a gun? I’m already on record as saying we need more red flag laws and tiered licensing. That might help catch the crazy shooter that just flips his or her kid and shoots up a school… if local Leo acts on it.

Gotcha, thanks. As much as I wish it were true (and I'd give up my 12 gauge pump in a heartbeat), Beto or any other gov agent isn't coming for your guns. That's at least 50 yrs away. ;)

right. Cars can kill people so can a pencil or a sock with batteries and they are legal. so why isn’t a 60 caliber machine gun legal?!

    All good
I respect your commitment. They can have my guns as soon as they convince me they have taken all the guns away from the animals that use them to shoot yo large gatherings, use them for violent hime invasions, etc…

LOL the reason I am laughing has little to do with this thread but your post reminded me of something funny that happened a couple of years after high school....About 40 or so of my friends chartered a boat for a new years eve cruise/party. This was around 1970 and the purpose of chartering the boat was that a lot of the kids on board were under drinking age so the Captain took us out past territorial waters so the underaged could drink. Anyway one of my buddies was a rookie cop. We were standing on the deck and another of my buddies took out a baggie full of pot and asked if anybody wanted to smoke a joint.....Tim the cop said "Yes I will roll it". The other guy handed him the baggie and Tim intentionally dropped it overboard and said Oops it slipped. I thought it was a brilliant move, Tim was straight as an arrow but was friends with everybody. By dropping the pot overboard he did not have to do his job and deal with it and it served the kid who owned the bag right for showing the disrespect to Tim by having the pot in Tim's presence.
