Not after that last game. It was one of the most one-sided games I've seen in the NCAA Tournament in awhile. Refs kept UConn in the game (and more commercials got sold). I am still wondering what I failed to learn so many years ago that allows you to stand in position for a rebound, have somebody launch and jump on your back knocking you to the ground and it's a foul on you -- the guy in front just standing there getting jumped on!

Like most others I agree we need to run their starters. More importantly, when bigs get tired they tend to reach more and reaching or pushing fouls are easier to call.
Queen came out of Montverde and was one of the best centers in high school. I watched him play in 4 or 5 games with Flagg. I noticed MVA was not running as much in year's past and it seemed they were giving Queen time to shuffle down the court, especially late in games. Sure they had Flagg and a whole host of D1 talent but it was odd watching MVA playing more half court ball than their usual. So there is a history of Queen taking his time on the court.
Also it's important when we run. Our backups are much more experienced and reliable on the court. If we use more backups they can tire them out while our starters rest. So I hope we play ours early and use them to push the tempo against their starters. I'm not saying to sub in all backups but use our rotations against them.
Once we exhaust their bigs it should be game over since their reserves play so little.

Start Condo and Haugh and go full beserker sprint for 3 minutes. Then sub in Chins and watch an exhausted Queen try to turn a shoulder into Reuben only to bounce off it and fall down defeated.

I think that our very physically strong guards can attack the rim and get the Maryland bigs into foul trouble.

Look for Maryland to try zoning us a bit to disrupt/take away our ball screen action and clog the lane. We had better be working on ball reversal for open corner threes.

FTs are a scary stat, I would say the main culprits are Condon, Chin, and Handlogton. Sunday Condon and Chin missed 8 FTs combined missed 12 total as a team. If you look at Friday though we were like 82% as a team. Idk if that's lack of concentration or just playing tight.

Yes and I thought the hand fouls called were pretty uneven; saw too many non-fouls called on us and too few slaps on our shooters not called.
I guess you just get hardened to it after seeing it for a season. We played through it like always. After three point shots are shot and the defensive player runs towards the shooter and jumps up to distract and does NOT touch the shooter whatsoever, this is called a foul way too often. It’s BS and could be game changing because many guards will easily make 3 FT’s. Like I always say, to no avail, if you don’t see it, it didn’t happen. Better that than call what you “think” you saw. There are several SEC refs that just will not learn.

Be happy you’re not in Hawaii. You know how many side eyes you get when you pre-game for a game at 6am?!?!

I officiated basketball for 12 years--from the little kids to adult leagues which were on par with small college ball. My mentor told me the same thing from day one. Everyone is going to miss calls. It happens. But do not call something you think you saw, or what you assume will happen.

I am concerned how well their guards shoot. But even a dummy like me knows tired legs lead to tired shots...CLANG.
Todd's not consulting me but I have a feeling he will be rotating guys like crazy with orders to wear their Azz out!

Condon looked tense. He's thinking too much I think.

I think their bigs are decent. Keep in mind that Colorado State’s center had a bad back and wasn’t mobile in the first place and the guy who was guarding Queen is only 6’7” and was a seldom used guy at Purdue. I think our bigs will hold their own against them and eventually wear them out. My biggest concern is how are we going to defend their shooters? Are we going to constantly switch or are we going to have our bigs hedge and stay assigned guarding them. I prefer the later. We had too many breakdowns against UConn and got burned for a lot of easy buckets.

I think you are mixing up the years. In 2002, Maryland won it all. They didn't play UNCW. They really had a dominant run (2 games with a single digit MOV (#2 seed Connecticut, 8 points; #1 seed Kansas, 9 points)).

In 2003, they beat UNCW in the first round (75-73); but they ended up losing in the Sweet 16. ;)

For sure bAin't nothing guaranteed. My only point is there may not be 8 SEC teams better than MD

People doubted the impact Handy coming back could have on a team already this good and deep and questioned if there was any comparison or choice in coming back vs getting a full year.

This is the game where his coming back could very much prove the difference between us going home vs having a very special year. Having that starter-level center to sub in and if nothing else allow Chin to keep the pressure on even if he gets in foul trouble is huge.

Also, I know we haven't used him (recently), but we also need to make sure Sam Alexis is ready to go and gets extra practice maybe. We need to run, run, run these MD guys and when they call TO try to catch up run them some more.

Would you compare Queen to DJ Burns from NC State last year?

I'd like to see us press early and try to make this game frantic. I don't think Queen handles that well and we have the bigs to rotate as fouls come. Guards have to be disciplined and defend the three b/c they can make them if we get scrambled out of position too often.
