I understand the impulse to spin it that way, but that is not how it went down according to pretty much every media report: e.g. Ex-Florida recruit who had scholarship pulled for dropping N-word in video receives offer from HBCU
There is just a bit of irony here. Hindsight is one thing, but when UF pulled his scholly offer the only thing you heard from the effed up woke media was that it was because of him rapping that “song” (if that’s what you call it)
Well, Dwan Mathis was in the elite 11 too, so the invites are not necessarily predictive of quality. I'll just say that Mertz has shown he has an arm and has a decent completion percentage in play action with not the best receivers or pass protection, so there is some hope for him in a system that does play action about double the amount at Wisconsin, has a better OL potential, and is less predictable inplaycalling.
You know how it’ll go; go somewhere small and show out and you KNOW the P5 schools will come calling again. He just gotta be patient and keep grinding
Stokes' offer from Albany State has been rescinded -- I'm sure it would have come to this eventually, I'm not saying his post was THE reason the school president stepped in to check the coach, BUT Marcus posting about his "first HBCU Offer" on social media undoubtedly drew attention to the offer and once it was in the news cycle the prez stepped in. Like... just get on a campus, if an offer isn't mentioned on social media it's still a damn offer! Kid needs to BURN his social media
So no second chances for a kid that sang a song lyrics huh? Does anything else in this kids behavior support a belief that he has any negative opinion of minorities? I'm not close enough to the situation to know but on the surface it sure seems like a pretty crappy stance to take against a kid for such an offense. Now if he were caught pulling a Riley Cooper I'd agree that actions have consequences and if he gets a second chance it isn't going to be easy to find one.
I’m guessing there’s more to this Albany State thing than we know. If his rap thing that got him crosswise with UF concerned Albany State they’d have never offered him in the first place
Gave UF an out either way. If he was Trevor Lawrence, maybe we do t pull the offer. The other school took him because his talent fits their school.
