I'm glad he's having success in the NFL. He's playing well when he gets in there. When he came to UF he was fantastic his first year then kinda regressed until the shoe incident. But I am glad he's rebounded and doing well.

Glad he’s doing well. But he will always be remembered as the selfish shoe guy. Sorry. I have Grinch in my blood.

  6. This is my overly simple test. If an NFL athlete is ashamed of the university that paid for his opportunity to audition for the NFL and made an attempt to teach him how to be an adult, and chooses to not acknowledge his university then I automatically lose respect. I get it, he probably got a lot of blowback from Gator fans, but dealing with "hate" is part of being a public figure in professional sports.

After you’ve already personally cost your team a win through indiscipline then added insult to injury by “opting out” of your final game for purely selfish reasons, then what difference does it make that you publicly deny that same team?

It all depends on what kind of “hate” he was getting. If it was disgusting stuff that crossed the line (which I’m sure it was) then he has every right to be indifferent towards the university he put his body on the line for. Some fans feel like they can say whatever disrespectful stuff they want to these athletes and then hide behind the “it’s a part of sports, deal with it” excuse, well some of these athletes don’t subscribe to that train of thought and will hold grudges.

I've seen some rep their college and high school. Last year and I forgot who it was, but not UF, was questioned about it. His answer was just simply he wanted to give a shout out to his home town too. For some it's not instead of, but in addition to.

Injury? He probably just ran out of shoes to throw after his second pick.

This part is also true. Fans cross the line all the time and there is no excuse for that idiotic behavior.

  13. I am not excusing Gator fans or fans in general, but the Gator Nation is not the only set of crazy fans that cross the line. It can be argued that we are among the most rabid or crazy, but there are plenty of other athletes with crazy fan bases. This is part of being a celebrity.

Similar story: I used to manage social media accounts for young celebrities in LA. Crazy fans do lots of crazy things. Even with underage celebrities I had to block and report every lewd private message containing private parts and every private message containing death threats and stalker behavior. I can imagine there is a similar kind of crazy with athletes. None of the behavior is excusable, but it is part of the crap that comes with being a celebrity.

Maybe the dumb shoe incident gave him enough motivation and a reality check to stay focused and concentrate on playing the game. And that is why he is able to have some success in the NFL (but AZ Cardinals lol)

Before the shoe incident, he came off as an immature JA. Maybe he got humbled after that.

A lot of ankle tape in the nfl. Tape shoes to the leg like a cast.

Happy to see Wilson doing well.

I recall quite a few football experts here said he would never get drafted and even if he did would never make an NFL roster. Nice to see him prove them wrong.

when it comes time to recognize the greatest DBs to play at Florida we should still call his name so we do not resort to his petty mentality.
