Why would that matter? Based on his last name, sounds Japanese American. He was still radicalized online the same way as any other fundamentalist of any religion or race. Maybe he visited different sites than say, an Islamic fundamentalist, but at the end of the day it’s the same toxic #^%~ .

Fair points...FWIW the Bible says that all leaders are appointed by God. Even Biden, so losing sleep over that part is a fools errand for the believer and unbeliever alike.

The Bible…most popular book in history. “A reliable historical book. Written by eyewitness during the lifetime of other eyewitnesses. They report supernatural events that took place in fulfillment of specific prophecies, and claimed their writings were divine rather than human in nature.” Voddie Baucham

While you have stayed away from the Bible. I would suggest you research the reliability/sufficiency of scripture to see if that might change your thoughts on the book.

The reliability of the Bible? It's certainly got a lot wrong if you want to take what it says as fact and not parables. You should research that.

OT It’s my understanding that original manuscripts do not exist and what we have is a book who’s NT chapters have been transcribed many times over and alterations have slipped in via human error or intent and political/religious controversy.

The Bible has manuscripts far more reliable that most old texts. And the transcription comes from the original. The NIV is not a translation of the NASB for example. They are a transcription from the Greek/Hebrew/Aramaic...

What would you consider original manuscripts? We do have ancient texts that match more modern ones almost verbatim. Some foretelling events by centuries. Pretty amazing stuff to anyone who REALLY researches it.

I say that to you as a thoughtful poster and to some of our not so thoughtful ones as well.

Stereotypes are often wrong when applied to individuals. That's the problem in relying on them.

    [Edit]
Just read that Ikeguchi was the son of a decorated 35 year veteran of the Florida Highway Patrol (and that he grew up in Sanford & Lake Mary, FL., moving to CA after his parents divorce).

Might explain his hatred of police--though not fully given that he had a lot of hatred directed at various groups that tend to be the targets of rw hate (i.e. jews and gays).

I can't believe that the major subject of this incident is debating whether reporting on him is unfair to White conservatives. Man do they have an overly developed sense of grievance.

Yeah, these are but a few of the reasons why rightwing extremism and radicalization is proliferating. Trump didn't invent it, but he exploited the problems and radicalized even previously "normal" people, not just young males who are the most likely to be violent.

DeSantis is trying to do likewise down in FL. His brand of "antiwoke" nonsense is nothing more than toxic white supremacy, with maybe even more of a penchant for authoritarianism.

Traditionally, far right and anti-govt extremists have been anti-police. I mean just basic rationality, one can’t actually be “anti-government” but simultaneously be “pro-police”.

Obviously the mind washing and propaganda in recent years has afflicted some, so some idiots might actually wave both “don’t tread on me” and “back the blue” simultaneously - not realizing they are in conflict. These are also the geniuses that want to roll tanks into urban centers domestically or unilaterally bomb Mexican cartels. Small government conservatives indeed lol.

I dont think thats the case. I mean OP is the one that introduces politics. Some of us are simply pointing out that it isnt that simple. For instance, hating the police is generally not a "white conservative" trait.

Perhaps looking deeper at other root causes (mental illness) is a better approach?

It is that simple. The OP didn’t inject politics into the shooting; the shooter did, being motivated by white conservative beliefs in choosing his victim.

And I didn’t read about his views of police; I don’t like to enter the mind of these types. The headline was enough.

But white conservatives are hardly pro-police generally. The current intellectual leader of white conservativism is trying to incite strategic assassination of law enforcement officials. White conservatives are just “pro-police” to the extent that police enforce white supremacy by violence, which is what white conservatives see as their role. If police become tools of neutral law enforcement, no one rails against police more than white conservatives.

It’s like the wealthy and FDR; it’s viewed as a betrayal. The whole party now hates the FBI, the most arch conservative organization out there by membership, because it dared to be part of enforcing laws against white conservatives.

But kudos on another successful thread hijacking.

    Anyone remember this?
In Washington Pizzeria Attack, Fake News Brought Real Guns (Published 2016)
The guy thought that he was rescuing children being held hostage and abused by pedophiles in the basement of a DC pizzeria (which by the way didn't even have a basement) because he read and heard about it on far right websites and through other sources in the far right mediaplex.

My guess is that the guy who shot the poor woman for displaying the rainbow flag probably thought that she was an advocate of performing irreversible genital surgery on children and that by shooting her he would be somehow protecting them.
