I'm a PADI Assistant Instructor (just for fun) and the dive shop I was affiliated with used take our classes to West Palm Beach to certify them since west coast diving in Florida is horrible. One Saturday afternoon we were out and came across a floating bale of weed. We brought it over near the dive platform to take some photos of it before we sent it on its way. This was MANY years ago and I saw the captain and mate up on the bridge writing down the LORAN coordinates. I have no idea what they did after they dropped us off at the dock nor did I ask the next day. For all I know, they called it into the Coast Guard. It wasn't floating too high in the water so it might very well have been ruined.

 

CRAP - I will be there this Thursday - Sunday. That would have made a fun weekend!

 

Awesome story. I'm not sure what younger me would have done, but current me wouldn't be caught anywhere near it. Just not worth it, whether it's dealing with law enforcement or whoever it belonged to. Yikes.

 

I found a little vile of white powder in the laundry room of Graham Hall my freshman year. I called my sister (a senior) for advice & she insta-came over. We bonded until it was gone.

 

Seen a few while offshore fishing also a lot of cyalume sticks which they use to mark the drop areas always just called the Coast Guard never touched them
