Not that it makes that big of a difference (although maybe a lesser charge?) but from everything I've seen it doesn't sound like he was in a car...

He was arrested about 7:30 p.m. when officers on foot patrol in the French Quarter noticed an "L-shaped object" in his front pants pocket, police wrote in records filed in Orleans Parish Criminal District Court.

Looks like it may be on its way, already. Not quite the same level of arrogance… yet. But it’s getting there.

There is currently no reason to move a thread to TH. That effectively ends the thread for all the rational minds here

Probably won’t be very serious but it should be, pretty lax gun laws

Not sure what the laws are in the quarter but cc without papers can be a problem.

There’s no requirement to register a gun in Louisiana. The only weapons that have a registration requirement in most states are class 3 items.

I thought florida had a castle law now, no? In TX, that law says your car is an extension of your home. You can carry in your car without a cc. I’m not 100% up to snuff on FL law, I know 20 or 30 years ago, FL had some kind of 3 or 4 step rule when carrying in your car, but I thought that was done away with a while back.

Probably some 38 special with the serial numbers shaved off...

just in case he wants to do some "unregistered shooting."

It may be. We have cc. If you’re fishing or hunting, you can have your gun so don’t forget your fishing pole if you don’t have cc.

Florida fishing allows open carry. In a car it is securely encased, (zippered pouch, center console or glove box) or not readily accessible. Allowing for old timers, ymmv

It used to be pretty nuanced (fishing, hiking) based on guns allowed, public places, parks etc. The legislation and N** got involved around 2010 or so to assume oversight, I just didn’t pay attention to changes. Folks would often get in trouble fishing with carrying vs exhibiting….. ymmv, not that it matters a hill of beans to this topic.

Holstered with a closed clasp counts in Fl. So as long as it is as stated above, you can have it sitting on your dash if you are so inclined. Not smart though.

Doesn’t have to be locked up at all. I sometimes travel with mine visible in a range bag behind the driver’s seat. Snapped in a holster.

I have guns, my kids have guns and I’m fully supportive. If you don’t have cc and have a gun in your pocket in the quarter, that’s something completely different.
