I don't know what it's going to take for people to accept that the staff views Mertz as a very quality starter, and they feel good about Miller as well. I tend to agree with them, but time will tell for sure.
I think they will bring another QB to deepen the room, but they are fine with those two guys fighting it out in the spring

Losers like Hurts, Fields or Burrow?

 

Kinda like a segment of Florida posters who "never wanted" a recruit who spurns the Gators? Like that same group who never saw a Florida player go into the portal that was "decent" anyway? It must be contagious. LOL!

 

I think we can agree that the STAFF like them. I think our argument is that they aren't quality QB's. Miller's sample size was small, but he looked terrible (can give lots of excuses, I understand). But Mertz's is not. Ask a Wisconsin fan what they think about him.

Maybe we'll all be pleasantly surprised and one of the above will be a stud for us. But, at this point, it looks like Lagway or bust. And even he won't be SEC ready in year one, IMO.

 

That's a legit concern.....and I won't rehash all the pros/cons of both kids, thats been done enough. But ultimately both have the physical tools and maturity. I'm excited for spring practice and a new offense

 

We also don't watch B1G games to figure out how to win national championships either, so I probably won't bother reading their cope.

 

What did our fans think of Driskel, Brisset or Murphy before they transferred out? They all had better years elsewhere because our line was trash and our coaching sucked.

I'm not guaranteeing Miller or Mertz will have the same success but I'm damn sure not going to preclude their success as qbs based on their history thus far.

 

Why stop there? Driskel, Brisset, Murphy.... all had success elsewhere and 2 into the NFL

Good post, I’m not saying they both can’t be productive it’s just that more often than not 4 years of data, in Mertz’s case, is pretty representative of what a college quarterback is. Don’t get me wrong, if Graham Mertz is our starter I will be the biggest Graham Mertz fan out there but Billy is going to have to show himself as an advanced play caller if we are going to take a stride forward offensively. Specifically Mertz showing he is someone he hasn’t shown before. Orbit motion, Hendo catching passes behind the line and not someone with some shake like Ricky, no screens, and not throwing to tight ends will all have to change imo.

 

None of whom lost a Spring competition. They were all after the season transfers

Howard was the closest to Fields.

I don’t see a Hurts out there (very good QB that got jumped by a great one).

Burrow is rare. And even still we need a guy for next year. So this comp doesn’t make sense.

 

What makes sense? I can give you all the transfers that didn’t work. Would it make you feel better?

 

And Bama fans say the tackle we got is a turnstile. We will see.
