You make me think, did SS talk to anybody else or did some coach agents sell him on Todd Golden! That in itself is kinda scary. LOL
The only thing that concerns me about Golden so far is that he worked with Pearl. I have a long standing problem with the integrity of Pearl going back to his days as an assistant at Iowa. And I can't think of when he was ever honest.
There was no actual search process...just zeroed in TG to the exclusion of others...bleak seasons ahead.
South Carolina just hired Lamont Paris from Chattanooga. - His resume is similar to Golden's, but was an assistant coach longer and head coach for 2 more seasons.
McMahon seemed to be the "flavor of the month" and he certainly has deserved / earned it. Congrats to LSU but we have our guy now. The SEC made more coaching transitions this year than I was expecting. I think it's fair to say it's a "new look" SEC going forward. Obviously with the new guys the magnifying glass will be on how successful they are at retaining quality assistant coaches, quality players on the current rosters, rallying the fan base and most importantly recruiting. It will be a scramble!
I guess you mean our search committee, who was involved, if you know, would be interesting to know our players other than SS. Maybe even why did the prefer Golden over McMahon?
I think there is going to be a nice "who got it more correct, UF or LSU?" dialog between the two fan bases in the coaching hires (Napier/Golden versus Kelly/McMahon) for the foreseeable future. Of course, LSU gets to play the "we have one hand (or two hands) tied behind our back" card whenever they are trending down. Anyways, I like our chances for winning the argument.
read the articles, I read that SS talked to at least 2 others, Grant being one. Disremeber the other.
I guess it depends on what you are looking for. Personally, one thing that I think sort of sets Golden apart is that he was able to assemble a team that finished top 25 in KenPom and Torvik rankings, and did it in a very good mid-major league like the WCC. Being able to get an at-large berth at a place like San Francisco is no small feat.
No doubt making the tourney as an at large bid is a crazy accomplishment for sure. I'm not as savy when it comes to KenPom, but they were 23 and Murray state was 36, I'd interpret that as San Francisco should have won that game on a neutral court. But it is interesting the difference between Santa Clara and san Fran with kenpom ranking -- very similar schedule played and records. Yet Santa Clara is way down at 71, so it's not being driven by playing Gonzaga and St. marys and the bottom of that conference which is very bad (otherwise one would expect Santa Clara and San Frans rankings to be closer)
Can you be any more defeatist? Golden was being targeted by LSU before we got him. Stop acting like he wasn't on everyone's radar who matters. Just because YOU hadn't heard of him doesn't mean squat.
Don’t worry Wingtee, coaches fire themselves at Florida, usually due to not recruiting. Then they make it harder on themselves by not being at ease with the media, they try to do as little as possible as CMW did, hiding from the media, not important. If we Gator fans don’t know what is going on, well recruits will listen then sign somewhere else. It is hard to get a mid major that can handle all the things needed to build a program. Great assistant coaches, people like Katy for football recruiting and consultants to make each player maximize his her NIL exposure. Todd hasn’t even got to Gainseville yet. Great coaches know they will not win without top recruits. As for the so called search, time will tell. I am hoping the best for Todd! If you want to help Todd, ask the AD about NIL for the basketball players. Tyree had clothing/swag for sale, did anybody else get help to have a website to help every player partake in it.
