WC53, you look at those stats and wonder how Florida won 7 games. We are in the middle of the pack on almost every stat except punting. If you didn’t know what are record was, just by looking at the stats, you’d think we’d have a losing season.
We had short and midrange with Mertz so its not the playbook. Lagway has to develop the ability. Hes great but hes green as hell. Half a season true freshman. He will be much better next year.
we are clearly much better with Lagway, Bro… But how many missed opportunities were there versus Ole Miss LSU and Florida State? Did that look like good offense to you? Run down, run on second down, third and seven Lagway to make a hero play and he does… but sometimes a wide receiver drops it or two wide receivers are in the same spot… Those kinds of things happen… What I’m saying is that Billy doesn’t know when to call what… He doesn’t know when to use tempo… He doesn’t know when to spread it out and would rather bunch everything up in the middle of the field … He wants to the team to sleep and then take a shot deep… That plus a 12th ranked recruiting class is going to get you seven or eight wins every year… If you want to compete for championships, you need to have an elite level play collar, and Billy is not… There isn’t even an argument there… the only team that says they want to compete for championships that does not have a true OC… I’m not sure what your point is
I think Neal Brown would be an excellent choice. Wasn't that successful as a head coach but was a damn good O coordinator.
Yes he was and seems to have a feel for the game- which is what I think most of us are concerned with. It’s how the game is called.. not necessarily the playbook. Napier doesn’t have an innate feel for the game like great OCs do.
So, you suggest bringing in a guy with Big12 and Sun Belt experience? Sun Belt Neal sound about right…
As an O coordinator he ran an up-tempo style of play and put up good numbers. Based on my view of BN and his "feel" for the game, someone like Brown, no matter what conference he coached in, would be an improvement. Let BN be the CEO, and hand of the offense and play calling to someone else.
It could be that we run the ball a lot because our OT are not the best at stopping good DE's. Or the defence is playing soft because of Lagways arm. Or to take time off the clock to keep a talented but thin defence from wearing down. I do know we won at Miss and Fla St. and I'm good with that.
The point was that your stats are not representative of expected performance from the offense going forward. You're all over the place, which may explain why you missed that. Receivers dropping balls are not the play caller's fault. A WR running the wrong route is not the play caller's fault. You acknowledge this so don't know why you brought it up. Recruiting has nothing to do with the play caller, but it's been trending up lately. Seems your opinion is just "Billy offense bad" without understanding what you're criticizing.
Basic football stats are probably irrelevant. The following article details several which are more useful. College football's 5 most important stats This graph shows two of these stats, offense success rate & offense explosiveness, for 2024 SEC teams. We're basically tied with Auburn & Bama for 2nd. The only team clearly ahead is Ole Miss where our turnover margin (one of the 5 stats) probably gave us the win.
What do I want ? I want Gator fans to quit suffering despite winning. To quit agonizing thru recruiting signing day . To trust Billy as our Head Coach ! Spurrier ain’t walking thru that door . I like my guy Napier . I love that he represents this university in the right way . I love that our players stay away from police trouble. Support him !!!!
Many here do support him and want him to be here a long time… I think that the best way to accomplish that is to bring in a good OC.
Of course, you are. Why would you want to split credit for Lagway's success with anyone else like all other successful head coaches do?
