Looking ahead to the tournament, obvioulsy getting the first round bye is big, but also getting the 5th or 6th seed is big as those seeds play the winner of the day before. The 7th thru 10th seeds play each other on the 2nd day. At this point, those 2 spots will likely be filled by us (as long as we take care of bidness), UK, or Tammy. Looking at the remianing schedules of each, UF and UK have 3 tough games left and Tammy has 4. Win 1 of the 3 against bammer and Cocks and win the rest, should get us to either the 5th or 6th seed. Do that and we're in the NCAA and playing for better seeding
If we win the games we should (Missouri, LSU, UGA, Vandy 2x) and get one vs Bama or S. Carolina, think we could slide into that 4 spot.
I see that I'm not the only one doing W and L scenerios for the last eight games 407! My "wish list" keeps coming up with a 6 - 2 finish, to the regular season, for an SEC record of 12 - 6. Now THAT would be sweet and there would be no "bubble or low seeding dance talk IMO" We do that and we would sit pretty with seedings in both tournaments I suspect.
Agreed, as we pick up wins I love re-evaluating where we could finish. If we get to 12-6 in the SEC and win one game in the SEC tournament, I think we could get to a 6-7 seed for the big dance.
So glad mens basketball is doing better. Football season for us fans is like going through a wood chopper recently. It's exhausting. Basketball has not been much better until this season. I don't throw darts at coach Mike White, high charachter man and I wish it would have worked out for him but his last few seasons were really frustrating. Of course Goldens first year and Colin gettinn hurt took the winds out of our sails last year. I'm just happy to have something a bit more to cheer for in basketball this year. Obviously Spring Sports and Baseball will be fun for Gator Nation. Hope Cags hits 50!
We need to take one against Bama and NOT lose to LSU. We're finally getting some good votes in the AP today. (interesting that we're ahead of TAMU though). thers receiving votes: Utah State 160, Colorado State 145, Texas Tech 111, San Diego State 84, Washington State 82, Nevada 57, Clemson 57, Gonzaga 50, New Mexico 27, Florida 19, Michigan State 17, Texas A&M 16, Grand Canyon 13, Ole Miss 12, TCU 10, Texas 9, Memphis 8, South Florida 7, Northwestern 2, UNC Wilmington 1 Dropped from rankings: Utah State 22, Texas Tech 23, San Diego State 24, New Mexico 25
Our schedule did us no favors with tiebreakers. I imagine we easily have the hardest schedule in terms of # of home vs. away games against the top half of the SEC.
I finally let myself START to think about it this morning. I was trying to figure out/ project how we’d need to finish compared to others, to get a first day bye. Thanks to the OP, for starting this one. I’m still a bit nervous about our final stretch of games, but that’s just my scar tissue from prior seasons. This is a good group, and they are very capable. Just have to play soundly on both ends and not let the wheels come off. There’s also that pesky, letting someone have a “ career night” against us.
Actually like the 5 better Get a game against a lower seed team that should be tired from the night before- get our feet wet before the bigger games
I think you just want something 6th or below and hopefully 4 or below. At #7 you play on Thursday against a team that also opens their tournament on Thursday and then your reward is the #2 seed, same with #10. And then same with #8 or #9 except reward is #1 seed.
If I had to guess the rest of our schedule I'd say: LSU- W @ UGA- Very conservative toss up, but lean W @ Bama- L vs. Vandy- W vs. Mizzou- W @ USC- Toss Up vs. Bama- W @ Vandy- W Split the toss-ups and we are 12-6. Last year we'd have been tied for 3rd seed and the year before we'd have been the 5th seed.
As long as we're comfortably in the NCAAT field, I'm quite okay with not playing in the SECT championship game on Sunday. It seems like every time we do, the NCAA Selection Committee puts us in the Thursday game and we play with tired legs. They even did that to us when we were the 2014 #1 overall seed, and we put up a rather listless performance against the 16-seed. The SEC really, really needs to move its tournament up a day.
If we finish 12-6, I would think we end 3rd or better. There's a world where the regular season winner is 13-5 right or am I crazy. I think Tennessee has the best chance at 14-4 maybe Auburn, but these last 8 games for everyone is setting up to be crazy. If there's a paper tiger in this group below, it's not crazy to think one or 2 end up 10-8 or 11-7. I guess the flip side would be UK, A&M or UF goes on a tear and ends the year 6-2. Tennessee remaining games 3 games against bottom tier A&M Auburn @bama @USCE UK Bama remaining games 1 game against bottom tier A&M UF @ole miss @UK Tennessee UF Auburn remaining games Usce UK @uga @UT Miss state Mizz Uga Usce remaining games @auburn @ole miss @A&M UF Tennessee Miss state
