Mayorkas is a traitor on immigration. That explains why liberals cheered when he wasn't impeached.

It's not just Democrats who support open borders. Many Republicans want this as well because their biggest donors want cheap labor.

The impeachment of Myorkas is a joke. It's nothing more than a political stunt. First, it's not going anywhere in the Senate so its basically a waste of time. It wouldn't surprise me if Schumer scheduled the agenda for the Senate trial of Myorkas in such a way that the hearing(s) and vote could completed in less than a day.

Secondly, even if one assumes that Myorkas was weak on border security his impeachment was based on a difference of opinion in policy not on "high crimes and misdemeanors" the standard for impeachment. Under the difference of policy standard a Republican EPA Administrator could be impeached by a Democratic majority House for approving a carcinogenic insecticide, herbicide or cleaning chemical based on failure to enforce the Clean Water or Clean Air Act or similar legislation.

You raise a salient point. Prosecuting a difference of opinion is one of the most troubling trends in modern politics. It’s exactly what conservatives accuse democrats of doing with the prosecutions of Trump.

Of course, in Trump’s case, he literally took and refused to return US government documents. Perhaps it can be said that this documents thing is just an excuse to prosecute him, though I don’t think this is supported by the evidence, but this impeachment of Mayorkas doesn’t even seem to include any excuse. Just that we think this is a problem, and we will impeach you because you don’t agree. This is an abuse of power that will simply beget future abuse of power.

Is the Senate even required to take it up and vote on it? IDK the answer, just asking.

Senate had to be the adults in the room. The house is a junior high peanut gallery.

Beclowning themselves regularly. The only real question is why grown adult voters tolerate this crap.

Wait, never mind, we know. The conspiracy theories, victimhood and rage enabling are very strong in today's Trumppublican party. What a time!

McConnel -- who outright refused to hold a vote on Obama's Scotus appointment -- says this sets a dangerous precedent.

DC republicans again making political theater for fundraising and Fox News guest appearances.

They are not a serious political party.

Skeletor(Rick Scott). Did Florida dirty by stalling the inevitable. I was watching manic when he got up and the disdain that skeletor got was funny.

Senate rules require a trial, not the law.

Someone above mentioned establishment of a new rule to table/end impeachment proceedings to avoid having a trial. That is exactly the case. In the history of the United States, there has never not been a trial once the House delivers the articles of impeachment to the Senate, never.

Just like Harry Reid and the democrats unilaterally changing how judges were voted on, rules not laws, this too will someday come back to bite the democrats on their collective butts. The republicans are still appreciative of this ill-advised rule change that allowed Trump to get 3 SCOTUS judges on the court in his first term.

I don't know the circumstances or when, but this decision today will lead to the democrats and their trained attack dogs, the media, to scream bloody murder when the tables inevitably get turned.

To me, the democrats would have been better off having a 2-day show trial with the same vote and a not guilty verdict. Instead, the democrats have set themselves up to be the party above the constitution and the law, without doubt the Senate rules, not a surprise to republicans.

Maybe this will stop both parties using impeachment as a dog and pony show, and used for only serious offenses? It's crazy to think the Rs won't pass a bill to fund Mayorkas, but turn around and impeach him, complaining he's not doing his job? It's total political theater, and the Ds gave the impeachment exactly how much time it deserved. Which is almost none.

If the Ds ever impeach anyone in the future for pure political theater, I hope the Rs do the same.

Quit being obtuse, the democrats impeached Trump twice on trumped up charges, political theatre, that did not rise to high crimes and misdemeanors, the last after Trump left office, another historic precedent.

No, I don't think the republicans should have impeached Mayorkas. However, the deed is done in the House. It's the democrats who unwisely responded by refusing to conduct a trial.

As a reminder, those "trumped up charges" received considerable Republican support, which is unprecedented in that Senate trials never were previously bipartisan on a Presidential impeachment. As noted by one of my Republican Senators at the time, Trump's actions on January 6 rose to a criminal level and he put on almost no defense.

This was obviously not a crime but rather a policy difference. What Trump did was not a policy difference but based on actions related to crimes.
