    I bet this is true now.

    When I was a kid on the Southside of Chicago we didn't have travel ball teams. It was all working class kids. But many of the best players didn't play LL. The local park league was very good and had a lot of talent. I played one year in the park league, got convinced by some friends to do LL, and then went back to the park league for my last year.

    I was fine with the LL competition and liked being one of the two starting pitchers. But I had more fun in the park league with nearly the same talent level and the only parents were the two coaches. There was more emphasis on having fun playing and less emphasis on winning. We still wanted to win but the joy of the game was a big deal.

    Added in edit: The other starting pitcher was named Bruce Hurst but I don't think it was that Bruce Hurst that pitched for the Red Sox. LOL.
