The vertical game will be more prevalent when the protection is there. We threw deep plenty last year. It's not like those calls aren't in the playbook. It's not even like those options aren't available on a lot of the plays being called. Right now we have a guy that gets rid of the ball quickly and takes what he's given. He's on time and accurate, and moves the ball down the field just fine. He's not going to run around like a chicken with his head cut off to extend plays, he'll just take the 5-6 yards he's being given and put us in a good position to keep driving down the field on the next play. Occasionally one of the receivers will break free and pick up a big gain after the short throw. Eventually the lb's will soften up at the line to try to break up some of the short passes and the running game will open up. There's more than one way to cook an egg. If we don't continually kill ourselves with penalties, this offense works fine. We can methodically move our way down field with the short passes and running game, and eat up tons of clock while we're doing it.

Yep, the bane of a ball control offense are penalties and negative plays. I still think even a ball control offense should wind up and throw the ball as far as the QB can at least a couple times a game to keep the Safeties from cheating up to stop the run and short passes. You might hit one occasionally and produce a really explosive play as well.

I think we tried once or twice against Tenn. The play he was sacked on, he had both receivers open, just had to wait to see which way the safety broke and got smashed right as the safety was breaking.

Luckily we aren't seeing a ton of negative plays, and the penalties are becoming fewer and further between.

We saw what happens when we get into 3rd and long against Utah, mostly from penalties. Even though that game was a bit of an anomaly in my mind due to the first game, on the road, without our center etc etc we don't seem to be the type of offense that can overcome those. 3rd and long wasn't a deal breaker under Trask and even AR but we haven't shown much against it with this current rendition. The addition of Wilson might help that but for now playing safe ball is the best option.

Third and long is always an issue, imo. Against Utah, penalties put us in that position like a dozen times. This offense isn't incapable of picking up a third and long (though I do believe it's more likely to have us in 3rd and short), but all offenses will struggle if they repeatedly put themselves in that position (unless the opposing DC is Todd Grantham). It's always nice to have a Kyle Pitts standing at the line to gain though.

I can hear it now. "Yea but Milton has a cannon for an arm so..." QBs like that will always get a pass. Jamarcus Russel did too.

Graham hasn't been asked to win us any games single-handedly. However, he has been more than serviceable and he hasn't COST us any games. Season's young, I know.

I don't disagree. Paul just worries about ratings and clicks.
Personally I would VOMIT if Dion became our coach!

Incorrect. Let's compare to his previous 3 seasons:
    • Completion % is WAY up
    • YPA is notably up
    • Interceptions are way down
    • Passer rating is way up
It's possible these aren't the same stats you are using. Please provide a link. I'm genuinely curious. (Edit: I realize you won't be able to reply for a while.)

My understanding is his completion % is higher at UF than any of his seasons at Whisky. At least through 3 games.

But, the season is still early. Personally I have been impressed with his sliding under center at UF with all that implies.

Shane Matthew's loves the guy, he's very complimentary of his football IQ, his gutty
efforts to win the confidence of his fellow players and coaches.

Of course the season will determine his legacy, and from what I've seen so far, he is playing like he wants to leave a good one.

    I resemble this remark:cool:
I’m “into tennis” (N210S) and stepping back a bit to see all of the mountains reflects my view of our team.
People that get close-up to examine each crystal of snow exhaust me:confused::confused:

Obviously this is great for our Gators and we're all proud . . . but I can hardly believe the Gumps are in last place!

Yeah, but where did we rank on air time or air speed or air density or whatever crazy stat our friend Matt suggested?

He made 3 throws rolling right (maybe 4) that were nuts. James at GNFP lit up on those. He also likes the guy (though he critiqued one roll-right, throw-across-the-body.)

We are low on air speed due to Watson and and a few others wind resistance.
