Ahead of the 2022-23 school year, the Sarasota County School District stopped all donations and purchases of books for school libraries while it waits for additional guidance from the Florida Department of Education about how to navigate the effects of new education laws. The freeze on book acquisitions in the district is all-encompassing and is expected to last until at least January. The freeze comes as HB 1467 took effect July 1, requiring all reading material in schools to be selected by an employee with a valid education media specialist certificate. The traditional triad of authoritarian epistemology Abstract Several recently defended views give a central role in the nature of epistemic justification to some kind of authority. In one version, the authority is oneself were one to reflect extremely carefully; in another, the authorities are experts in reasoning; and in the third, the expert is God (or “Nature”). This chapter argues that they all have the sort of explanatory flaw that is famously discussed in Plato's Euthyphro. In Florida we do not appeal to self-reasoning, expertise, or the Divine for our epistemology, or at least not traditional notion of the Divine.
