This! Everyone knew mullen was going to run Tebow and Percy and couldn't stop them, but that hardly made him a great play caller. Actual play calling is over rated, execution is the key (see mullen/Tebow/Percy). Our OL is average and inconsistent in opening holes for a team that want's to be run-oriented.

SOS inherited lots of talent, especially along the LOS.

How did CBN put us in position to win every game? Are we really blaming players for our losses? Some of our offensive outings have been bizarre. Put that on the team? Some of our defensive outings have been a disaster. Put that on the players too? Okay, so we now know we have a top notch staff and all we need now are a few top 10 classes. Prominence, here we come. Not sure how we are being completely honest.

Well, we hope. Good D against A&M, it seemed.

Kirby likes Napier and helped him get jobs. Napier has expressed his gratitude.

Sticking to my 7. A one game improvement over last year which is what Napier achieved his first year at ULL. Could have been better. Could have been worse.

I'm happy with all the intangibles of building and recruiting and trust any shortcomings or issues will be handled.

It takes years to get back to the top tier of the SEC and consistent excellence to stay there.

With those players that Smart had, Spurrier would have multiple NC's already! Don't be so dumb about Smart!

Not discussing Spurs but I do enjoy a hypothetical discussion. Smart was one blown coverage on 2nd-and 26-Tua from having 2 Nattys. May get the 2nd this year.

I agree with you to a point.

Charlie Pell and Galen Hall guided the Gators to a good place. During that time span the Gators got some good recruits and had some successful seasons. The last three season started showing signs of a downturn. A that time Spurrier revived a down Duke program let it be known that he was getting homesick for Gainesville. Moving Galen Hall out of the way did not take much effort.
When Spurrier came back to the Gators as the HBC he did not have dumpster fire to put out. The team was stable and he had a lot to work with. Also, the hire of Spurrier pushed the Gators back on top (or at least even) of the Caines and Noles in the in state recruiting wars. Also, the hiring of Spurrier drew in a lot of out of state talent too.

OK, we get it, you did not want Napier and will take any opportunity to criticize him. Looked at some of your other posts. Same theme, different day. If we go 12-0 in the next two years, you will still find something to bitch about. Give it a rest. It adds nothing good to the team or the University of Florida.

Well good deal. I hope that benefits us. I don't have anything against Kirby, I'm pretty sure he's the architect of the Bama defenses. I sure wish he'd taken the South Carolina job. The only strike against him is he's one of those people whose spelling of the word dog is an indictment against the Georgia school system ;)

Meyer stated after the 2006 NC game that Ron Zook recruited 21 of his starting 22.

Coaching is important, but we did look like ass on offense until the SECCG and then put on probably the best offensive performance I have seen since the 96 title game. Chris Leak put on a show.

I was hoping 9-3 would be year one so I am a little concerned. The thing is, we were in just about every game right up until the end. Utah worked out for us, but the others haven't. I am pleased with the offense in year 1, still work to do but very respectful. The defense has been the disappointment but that was also not the focus of recruiting from the last staff. I like where we are in recruiting and am looking forward to the future.

Spurrier was a great coach. But that 1990 team had lots of future NFL players. Shane was in the league some 13 yr, then there was Rhett, Brad Culpepper, Godfrey Myles, Jimmy Spencer, etc. Take a close look at that 90 roster and see who Galen Hall had recruited.

Not taking anything away from SOS, but he had a darn good defense in 1990, he simply took the offense to another level by picking Shane as the QB, moving Kirkpatrick from LB to TE, and teaching WRs how to run routes.
