And studying bias does not require a 1-to-1 comparison. You can compare the conditional average of a set of cases to the conditional average of another set of cases. As one does in something like a regression analysis.

    Also, the word is ciao.

If only you had a clue……. You are not just studying bias, you are studying a very fact specific, human aspect of the legal system, something you clearly know nothing about. And Siri wanted me to tell you that she will spell chow any damn way she pleases. Chow.

Yeah, given that you have absolutely no idea how statistics work, I think I will go with the people who became experts on how to study the criminal justice system over you. Ciao!

Just more racism from the far left, disguised as ignorance.

if the whole world were Italian then you may have an argument….but since you have chosen to ignore the entire race and culture of Hispanics with your WRONG xenophobic/racist B.S., on behalf of all Hispanics everywhere…. Chao.

Your responses are the poster child of petulance. You are the type who wins a fantasy football league for a few years then has the temerity to try and lecture an NFL coach on who should be the starting QB for the team. You may be the best fantasy football dude in the Country, but you’re not a coach. Same holds true here. No matter how many times you espouse “but statistics!” You do not have the skill set to obtain and examine personal discretion in our judicial system. There is little data on the subject, and most of it would be unavailable at all, or very difficult to obtain. You don’t know this because you live in a world of assumptions, like thinking everyone says goodbye in Italian. Your unicorn study has two primary components: data collection and data analysis. I’m talking about collection and you’re over in the corner stomping your feet about analytics. This is why you fail. Chow.

I know that "chau" is used by Argentines, for example, but I didn't realize that a variant of "ciao" is prevalent in so many languages.

    Ciao - Wikipedia

Ciao (/tʃaʊ/ CHOW, Italian: [ˈtʃaːo] ([IMG]listen)) is an informal salutation in the Italian language that is used for both "hello" and "goodbye".

Originally from the Venetian language, it has entered the vocabulary of English and of many other languages around the world. Its dual meaning of "hello" and "goodbye" makes it similar to shalom in Hebrew, salaam in Arabic, annyeong in Korean, aloha in Hawaiian, drud (bedrud) in Persian, and chào in Vietnamese (the latter is a false cognate; the two words are not linguistically related despite sounding similar to each other).

This is the part that I'm not seeing addressed that I am most curious about. If we cannot tie bias down to individual judges, then it seems to be useful to identify where/how we are seeing the disparities that are being presented. It would seem the research would/should lead us to be able to identify disparities between judges in the same district or disparities between districts with possible fair distributions within the districts (could range anywhere from some judges are more fair than others to bias assignment of strict judges or other possibilities). @Orange_and_Bluke, @mutz87 was probably the most articulate poster on here in addressing this topic on the data side we had some side discussions on it as well; to whatever extent he didn't have direct knowledge of something he seemed to know where/how to find it quickly. I have an idea about what he would say about this, but I would rather not speak for him.

I recall Mutz knowing about the subject. Seemed like he dedicated his career to this subject. I was just harassing Davis for phoning a friend because Davis couldn’t win the debate.

Your posts are the poster child of ignorance. Proving bias across a system does not require you to prove Judge A is biased. It requires proof that, on average, there is a bias. That is when you use statistics to answer a question. You clearly didn't or couldn't even read the study I posted, as it was a meta-analysis, which means it was an analysis based on many other studies, in which other researchers collected data or utilized secondary data (which, despite your claims, you have no knowledge about what data exists that is utilized by all of these studies). So if you wish to talk about collection of data, let's actually start from you knowing what the data is, then we can discuss that component. But since you don't, you arent actually discussing data collection with any knowledge of what the data actually is.

Wow, how embarrassing for you, that you tried to use an Italian word that now is also an English word, got it horribly wrong, and are now forced to resort to this.

The collection of data was almost certainly biased to begin with. I never trust liberal ass studies. They already had an outcome in mind before anyone lifted the first finger.

To what end? If you steal a pencil, you might get the death penalty...so don't steal a pencil? What if you are falsely accused and cannot afford proper representation? I think what you say is great advice for a dad to his son to stay out of trouble, but most of these people likely find themselves in these situations because they don't have dads who are involved.
