The 4 bigs have 24 of the teams 59 turnovers while providing 19 of 62 assists so probably not as bad as it seems. Kugel I think leads the team with 12 turnovers.
Lol…..4 games into 2 freshman’s career with a sophomore and we are comparing them to our best groups of bigs of all-time has to bode well for the future.
We had back in the championship run of Noah, Horford, Richards, Moss and Speights..3 played a long time in the pros..2 were all stars..so yeah since that group
Richards also got a taste of the NBA. As for our bigs, I like them, but I am reserving judgement as to how good they are right now until they play a few more good teams. FSU stunk.
First, Micah is the length we have been missing for forever. Good for him. Different game than CC. Samuel is THE signing for this season. No Samuel, DAMN big problem. But... The freshmen bigs are not what we should have expected. Yes, they are kind of thin, but their basketball IQ is WAY more than what we should have. Kentucky and Kansas? sure, but not a UF. As I posted on the game thread after it was over, the freshmen WERE the story of the FSU game. Without them we would have been in a world of hurt due to the other two being in foul trouble. Kind of like the 2006/7 season. If Richard had not come in and taken up the slack, we don't win the second NC.
Yeah, Noah was a turnover machine as a freshman, and a dominating monster as a sophomore. Watching him early that year against Syracuse in the Garden in NYC, I was thinking, "Holy smokes, he suddenly got great!"
The two freshmen have to grow up quickly. Love that they don’t mind mixing it up down low. Quite surprising really. They are still late on rotating defensively at times. Good length and athleticism at the 4 and 5. The only knock to me is that they need to gain strength overall as we seem to hit the deck too often. That and of course free throw shooting.
Looking at 247 recruiting ratings, the freshmen Haugh and Condon sported identical 3 star / 88 ratings. Samuel’s transfer rating was almost the same, 3 star / 0.89. Pullin and Clayton were more respected (4 star / 0.92 each), and Hanglodten led the bunch with a 4 star / 0.94 rating. Definitely some value picks here.
Bold take. If that proves to be true, and we're sitting with a sophomore/freshman/freshman set down low...wowzers.
I've been thinking the same thing. I've watched video of him and he looks solid, but not spectacular. He was never going to beat out Handlogten and Samuel, and both Condo and The Hawk look more athletic and aggressive.
To be clear, I don’t think anybody is under the delusion we have 3 lottery picks here. Not even sure any are on draft boards. Although Condon in particular eyeball tests as a potential big time prospect in a year or two. The comparison is mostly a discussion of the depth. It’s unclear if we have any NBA first rounder, but definitely 4 guys that have varying degrees of pro potential, and personally I think Condon has the highest ceiling to develop.
Your guess is that he wasn’t going to beat out Handlogten and Samuel. My guess is that he would have started at the 4. He is a true stretch 4. Handlogten is so prone to fouling, he probably would be better off coming off the bench. Let’s wait until our bigs start kicking butt against top-tier teams before we go gaga over them.
