The brother of a pregnant woman found dead last week inside a Lakeville home is now charged in her killing. Prosecutors on Tuesday charged 23-year-old Jack Joseph Ball, of Farmington, with two counts of second-degree murder.

The 911 caller said her daughter, 30-year-old Bethany Ann Israel, had gone to dinner with her brother, Ball, earlier that night but she got concerned after not hearing from Israel. The woman said she drove to the home, saw Ball quickly leaving and then saw blood upon entering the home.

As officers searched, they found body parts. More were found when another person called 911 saying a man placed what appeared to be a body part on their front step in Rosemount. Ball was found near a shed nearby, covered in blood and near several other body parts, court documents state.

Police later learned that Israel was between 17 and 18 weeks pregnant with her first child. Journals and handwritten papers belonging to Ball indicated that he was angry his sister was pregnant because she was “no longer innocent,” a criminal complaint states.

Sounds like one of those “honor killings” that would typically happen in stone aged Pakistan or Afghanistan.

I assume this guy was a fundamentalist Christian? Obviously he must have had other issues going on. Crazy logic that he expected his 30 year old sister to be “innocent”. WTF.

So much of what is wrong in this country is the rise in mental disease.

We can build jails. Pop pills.etc, but it is going to keep growing until we figure out as a society what is driving it. We are under more pressure than ever and its all on full display. Society is falling apart one breakdown at a time.

What a terrible situation. A mother lost both her children in essence.

Take a look at the change in medical practice with regard to women taking prescription drugs during pregnancy, including mind-altering antipsychotics, tranquilizers, and antidepressants, and I think you'll see one cause of the problem.

Is there really a rise in mental disease? Or a rise in identifying and treating it? I’m genuinely curious.

Why would you assume he was a fundamentalist Christian? It appears his sister was married and pregnant by her husband. That’s something a fundamentalist Christian would typically celebrate.

Sometimes it’s best to leave your prejudice on the shelf.

Fair question. But i do wonder if we are better at treating it or if we mostly slap bandaids on it.

    Also asking as someone curious.

Interesting to me that he is charged with second degree murder and not first degree murder given the existence of the journal showing that he was mad at her.

As a Christian, I struggle when people claim to be "fundamentalist". It generally means legalistic. It generally means judgemental. I get that and tend to agree.

But your comment is based on what?
Maybe the 3 who "agree" could chime in too?

You think Christians, even the fundamentalist types tend to frown upon 30 year old married women having children?

I thought fundamentalist were "forced birthers".

I cant keep up with the spitballs you guys toss around

I think I've read in some places they do this to increase bond, while waiting for more evidence to concretely secure the 1st D charge.

    Am I misremembering?

Because his stated issue was her lack of “innocence”, which is the province of religious fundamentalists who do “honor killings”. That was where I saw the connection. Truly the “honor killing” is no longer common for Christian fundamentalists, it seems persistent and somewhat common mostly in Islamic and Hindu cultures (which is what I’ve read a bit about). Although there are still occasional Christian examples if you care to search for them and educate yourself as to their existence.

The article doesn’t mention whether she was married. I have to admit I did assume she was single. I assume you have an article confirming a husband? If she was indeed married i agree that would make it even more bizarre and difficult to judge as an “honor killing” and push it towards the man being just straight up crazy (not that there is any doubt as to the latter, but it’s not mutually exclusive).
