Fans and rivals wonder why Jeremiah Smith wants to play in Florida's Off...
    Dj is why.

First TD -- 3 yards through the air. Next 3 TDS and 7th: behind line of scrimmage. Easy pickings as a QB.

Not knocking DJ. TD #6 was a thing of beauty. Rather: he has some studs playing for him.

To be fair, the first 4 TDS were swing passes at or near the line of scrimmage that the back/receiver took to the house. Nothing critical of Lagway - he made the throws- but the TDS were relatively little to do with him and a lot to do with what his receivers did after the catch.
Edit- I see FranceGator beat me to it. Bon!

Short throws crisp and on stride. Some of the worst tackling I’ve ever seen. Throws lasers on intermediate routes. Man among boys size.

I've not seen or heard of any flaws in his game or character. College is always a transition but the fact that he's making this recruiting class his and has been on campus so much is going to make a difference. He trusts the coaches.

I hope Mertz can help his transition one way or another.

Not to rain on Mertz’ spectacular outing, but …

Even as good as Mertz is playing, it'll be surprising if Lagway doesn't start next year. Perhaps we'll have 2 starting quality QBs since I don’t know when.

This brings up a question I’ve had:

Why don’t these great high school quarterbacks bring their wide receivers with them to college?

If the school is not recruiting them, there probably isn't much the QB can do.

Lagway sounds like an absolute stud. He has a chance to be a generational QB for the Gators. Obviously he is still in high school, but damn!

Wonder if he’ll play the 2006 freshman Tebow role to the senior Leak (Mertz) next season?

UF has offered one of DJ's WRs a PWO.

My only concern with Lagway putting up those type of numbers is the quality of competition he is going against. Is he playing top tier high school teams or a bunch of bums?

The easy ones are essential to being a good qb. If you make all the east ones, you don’t have third and long all the time.

Starting true freshman are very rare unless the team is in dire straits. I don’t see it.

I'm usually the first to say that but this dude is different. So is Napier. Not expecting it but competition would be nice.

There is a post in the recruiting thread stating that Lagway plays in one of the worst districts in Texas. Not knocking DJ, just saying as good as he is, he should be dominating in high school. Let's wait and see how he is against better competition before giving him the starting job. Remember Arch Manning was supposed to take over Texas but that didn't happen. There is a learning curve.

    Edit: found it.
