I actually listened to it. All episodes today. Kind of frustrating in multiple ways. Like you, this just reinforced my distaste for vocal antivaxxers and nutjob conspiracy theorists. Whatever they started from they turned into just awful people. Also the behavior of the hospital and their reaction was abhorrent.

    Absolutely.

Edited to add. I thought the reporter was very solid but I was still a little bit surprised at her statement in the final episode that she expected the conspiracy theorists to acknowledge error after Tiffany granted interviews. I suspect that was a bit. You can't hang around those people or read them for too long and expect them to ever acknowledge error

I suspect that many of these conspiracy theorists lack meaning in their lives, and this gives them a feeling of importance and attention.

Professor at UF reviewed the data and had this to say about Lapado's changes: "It's a lie."

How do we know he won't hide information when it comes to HIV treatment or meningitis? No one should be ok with this

It is a sign of liberal bias to measure conservative statements against objective conceptions of truth.

Kevin Drum lays it out in way that easy to follow for lay people

    In other words:

    • The vaccine had no effect on cardiac deaths.
    • Ladapo knew it had no effect.
    • He knew exactly which parts of the report to excise to make it look like there was an effect.
    • He excised those parts.
The great thing about this is that it's so technical that nobody except an expert has any idea what he did. Even when it's explained, there's probably not one person in a hundred who understands what happened.

In layman's language, then, here's what happened: The authors of the report used a method to eliminate bias in their measurements of cardiac deaths. When the bias was removed, they found no effect from the vaccine. Ladapo deleted that part of the report.

Didn't our resident vaccine denier rely on a lot of data from this fraudster?

Yeah, but when your battleship gets sunk you just do the "secret information" thing, exactly as Ladapo himself did:

Just call anything you want "fact", boomerang whatever you just got busted for, and support it with the "holder of secret knowledge" tactic. Ladapo went a step further by literally altering the very document he used originally, but when that got exposed just fell back to where he should've started anyway -- I have access to information no one else does, and that can't be shared with the king's subjects. Just do what we say. I have "done my own research", and people of very specific political beliefs agree with me on Gab and Telegram.

Interesting. I wonder if Lapado, or even the state government could be theoretically liable for intentionally manipulating information, in bad faith, at the expense of the vaccine makers? Seems like they would, although probably not a battle the vaccine makers would want to pick.

I think it would be hard to get around the sovereign immunity aspect. He's acting as a state officer
