why do i get the feeling if this was a team owner much more of a punishment would have occured. the nets just continue to placate this individual, all for the detrement of the team. why has the league not stepped in, like the nfl did with watson?

The league was probably waiting for the team to do the obvious. If Irving does whatever the team wants to apologize, it’s a 5 game suspension and that’s the end of it. If he decides to go “full Kanye”, I’d wonder if his career is over.

I think the idea of owners getting more severe punishment is ludicrous, the bar is even higher to kick out an owner. It’s happened in various sports, but it takes ALOT more since you basically need a plurality of the other owners to agree to it.

Yeah, the maximum fine they could levy on Sarver (who was guilty of years of saying nasty things and running a organization ripe with abuse) was $10 million dollars, which is like fining any of us $1000. The 'worst' thing that is happening to him is voluntarily selling the team for a lot more money than he paid for it, which is not a punishment at all.

I stopped paying attention to the NBA about the same time I gave up Professional Wrestling, and for the same reason. They are both a show, they are not real competition.

That behind us, what did Irving do?

I really miss out by not being an NBA fan.

BTW I see that Irving has apologized for saying that the Earth is flat. Says he didn't realize the effect that his comments would have. (I.e., teachers having to reteach their science curriculum.)

His career is over anyway. He's been a locker room nightmare the last few years. He misses more games than he plays. He's a constant distraction. My guess is he ends up in China like Marbury did.

Funny that for a week Kyrie stands his anti-Semitic ground. Becomes apologetic AFTER his 5-game suspension. Bummer, I'd like to have seen him run with the line some more.

I meant in terms of even finishing out the season.

But no doubt he’d already shown to be a headcase all the way back to his time with Cleveland. How many times do these guys get to prove it?

The NBA is fantastic and its real competition, so stop lol.

But essentially Kyrie Irving is being himself...spouting out batshit insane conspiracy theories, antisemitism and the like. Its a shame because he is fun to watch play.

What's sad is he's gonna get blackballed from the NBA and it will lean into the antisemitic trope that the Jews are controlling him for speaking out. Which is kind of true, but not in the way it is meant. If that makes sense...

Oh, he’ll step in it again. Some of these guys can’t help themselves. Like the ego demands they dig in, that’s why even the apologies often contain passive aggressive language. Seems like a form of narcissistic personality disorder where they just can’t flatly admit they were wrong or stupid/uninformed, so instead they give a riff on “sorry if you took my words the wrong way and were offended”. Notice that actually lays blame at the feet of the person who was offended.

Kyrie is one of the most gifted talents to ever play in the NBA, and that's saying something.

He's also one of the strangest, bat shit craziest locker room cancers the league has ever seen.

He should be forced to play in Israel for a couple years, shut his yap and then tell us what he might have learned. But I suspect he wouldn't learn anything.

Yeah, it is about the biggest example of information without discernment that I can imagine.

I think the most ridiculous thing Kyrie ever said was that Kobe was better than Jordan.

Beat me to it, to answer the question of the OP, I assume that’s why Jewish commissioner Adam Silver chose to stay out of it. He suspends Irving and it basically confirms the antisemitic troupes in Kyries documentary.

It was certainly less ridiculous than the large numbers of people who say that Lebron is better than Jordan.

For the negative comments I have received on my first post here: The NBA was the originator of what officiating in college and pro sports has become. Star Calls makes me sick when I watch. NBA refs would make Jack Childress blush (on occasion).

College football refs and SEC refs in particular this season are giving them a run for their money this though. We have been hosed many times this year, not just against the leg-humpers.
