November basketball is hard to watch!! This will be an uphill battle, but let’s see how these young Cats like the bright lights!
I was very pleased in how we played. This team has a high upside. Hoping for the best but very happy where we are in November.
Kentucky lost this game because, down the stretch, Antonio Reeves thought that he was so much better than everyone else on Kentucky that he needed to take all the shots. It didn’t work.
Wrong. He played great, but Kentucky had the game until Reeves decided to be selfish. Did you watch the last 10 minutes of the game?
Half Dickinsons amount of points and it won’t matter how selfish a player becomes. You would still win. 27 is too much IMHO.
The raw number of points from a single player doesn’t matter so much. The scoring efficiency is the stat that matters. Let’s say Dickinson scored on 25 points on 30 shots. If you take away half his shots, he indeed scores only 12 or so. But you still have to account for those other 15 possessions. Just because Dickinson didn’t shoot the ball doesn’t mean that KU just handed the ball to UK in those cases. Instead, some other player(s) likely took those shots. Those other players might have scored 5 points on those 15 possessions, but they might have instead scored 20. If the latter, you would have actually done better to just let Dickinson shoot.
To put some meat on my prior post, Dickinson had a monster game. However, Kentucky led by 5 with 3 minutes to go. They then were outscored 11-1 to lose the game by 5. In those last 3 minutes, Reeves went one-on-one 5 times in order to create 3-point shots for himself, and he missed all 5 3-pointers. He reminded me of why I was happy when Tyree Appleby left the program for Wake Forest.
We are missing a few pieces that should come together shortly. It was a great game to watch and Kentucky showed life!
