Alright, big guy, it seems you actually can't explain how religion played a big role in inventing the motor boat despite making that claim earlier ... I'm cool with just leaving it at that.

Reposted in its entirety. Try again:

You think rather highly of yourself, and obviously, very lowly of us Christians. Setting aside the fact that this not so humble Christian surely thinks less of your intellect than you could possibly think of mine, and that I couldn't possibly care less about your opinion of mine...

Let's take a quick glance your suggestion that religion and simple mindedness are co-related.

First, let us begin with species. Of all the species on the planet and throughout history, and prehistory to the beginning of time--there has been but one species, for which we have been able to identify any evidence of adherence to religion: homo sapiens.

So we can shift the entirety of the animal kingdom--from amoeba to worms, cock roaches to rats, pigs to chimpanzees, mollusks to dolphins--sans homo sapiens--to your side-the irreligious. We can also throw in the entirety of the plant kingdom, fungi, bacteria, protist, eukarya... you get them all. Sans homo sapiens.

You also may lay claim to the neaderthals, and cro-magnon, and any others, as to my knoweledge, there is no evidence of religion within those.

Stacked against homo sapiens, all of intellectual accomplishments of all of your animal kingdoms and species combined, are grotesquely out done by those of homo sapiens, whose existence constitutes a blink an eye compared to the rest.

    Coincidence?

Now, let us break down homo spaiens within that blink of an eye....

From the beginning of civilization--the Chinese, the Greeks, the Aztecs, Maya, Incas, the Romans, the barbariens, the Visogoths, the Celtics, the Vikings...on and on--ALL of the great, successful civilizations---were undeniably, demonstrably religious--with religion not just being ALWAYS there, but invariably, a driving force.

    Coincidence?

Now, within the realm of religions, cases can be made for this one vs the other--conversations to be had amongst us enlightened religious folk, not your determined to go back to the prokaryote era types...

But for purposes of your explicit allegation of us Christians being simple minded--the civilizations we anchored have led the world on technological advancement for the last ten centuries, and counting.

    Coincidence?

Everything from agricultural advancements to space travel...automobiles and trains to motorized boats...air planes to rockets capable of leaving and returning to/fro outer space ...computers, telephones, cell phones... on and on, invented and developed in countries anchored in Christian culture...

    Coincidence?

    Your team continues to...evolve?

TBL: Religion--including (in fact led by) Christianity > absence of religion.

    ...by epochal margins...

Please correct me if I’m wrong, but it sounds like you are saying it’s OK to use bigoted language towards a group of people if you believe the foundation for that group’s belief is false. There are a lot of views expressed on too hot that other people believe are based on fictions.

The two people I quoted, I did not challenge their right to disagree, but I challenged the bigotry with which they expressed their disagreement. I hope that you would repudiate that bigotry, and not excuse it.

You might want to look into some history of science. The scientific revolution was built upon a core of Christian beliefs. These beliefs were not incidental to the science. These were the very foundation for the advancements.

    1. The scientists of the 17th Century believed the material world to be good because God had made it good. Genesis 1 ends with the comment, “God saw all that he had made and it was very good” (Gen. 1:31). Moreover, the essential goodness of matter is affirmed by the Incarnation.

    2. The founders of modern science believed that the universe is regular, orderly, and rational because God is personal, rational, and faithful.

    3. They believed that the order of the universe is contingent because the existence and behavior of the created world depends on the will of a sovereign Creator. The importance of this theological perspective, for science, is that one cannot deduce the behavior of the natural world from first principles. God could have made a world that behaved in any way he wished, so if you want to know how the world does behave, you have got to go and look. Hence, the importance of observation and experiment, an approach that distinguished the science of the 17th Century from the deductive approach of the ancient Greeks.

    4. 17th Century scientists believed that the behavior of the material world is intelligible to human reason because God has made us in his image and given us a mind with which to think.

Science and Christian Faith: Conflict or Cooperation?

All these beliefs follow from the Christian doctrine of creation. The early pioneers of the scientific revolution saw their efforts as glorifying God as they sought to understand God‘s creation. You could explore this further by looking at the lives of individual scientists from that time.

A lot of generalizations there … “they believed”…

I mean the church made laws and murdered, arrested, or at best kicked people out, for saying things like “the earth isn’t the center of the universe”, “the world wasn’t whipped up in 7 days”, evolution happened, “the earth is stationary and the sun doesn’t revolved around it”, etc…

Ever hear of the crime of blasphemy? The religious humans who wrote The Bible says it’s punishable by death…. Sounds very open minded, real spirit of cooperation shown there…

The gall of the left to complain about blasphemy laws…There is no group in American society who enforces and punishes others more for blasphemy.

Misgendering, microaggressions, etc…all of those are blasphemy laws. It is leftist Sharia.

Wasn’t Galileo imprisoned by the a Church as a heretic for concluding the Earth revolved around the Sun?

I don’t understand the first point you make, “whether you or I like it or not…”. Why would you like, or dislike, whether someone has faith? I think religious faith itself is individualistic, and I think whether and/or the extent one worships their individual faith, shouldn’t itself be judged.

There are a lot of misconceptions surrounding Galileo. He was not punished for going against the Bible. He was punished for going against Aristotelian cosmology. In that day, those who said “believe the science” believed that the sun revolved around the Earth.

Galileo was also punished because he was an absolute jerk. He believed he was the smartest person in the room and let people know that. Copernicus and Kepler believed essentially the same ideas and they were not punished.

Galileo’s “imprisonment” was first a stay of several days at Villa Medici in Rome; then, by a stay of several months in the palace of his friend the Archbishop of Siena; and then (at the end of 1633), he was allowed to reside, in a sort of house arrest, in his own house, the Villa del Gioiello, in Arcetri, outside Florence, where he lived and worked until his death.

I know Galileo was imprisoned via “house arrest,” and thus perhaps my use of the word, “imprisoned,” was too strong. I didn’t know he served his time in such luxury. I do believe he was found to be a heretic by the Inquisition, though, although Copernicus was not likewise tried (probably because Copernicus died about 100 years before Galileo)

I don't know if this is an accurate copy/translation of the indictment, but if so, it looks like he was punished for allegedly going against the Bible (Holy Scriptures)?

    1. The proposition that the sun is in the center of the world and immovable from its place is absurd, philosophically false, and formally heretical; because it is expressly contrary to Holy Scriptures.

    2. The proposition that the earth is not the center of the world, nor immovable, but that it moves, and also with a diurnal action, is also absurd, philosophically false, and, theologically considered, at least erroneous in faith.

Therefore . . . , invoking the most holy name of our Lord Jesus Christ and of His Most Glorious Mother Mary, We pronounce this Our final sentence: We pronounce, judge, and declare, that you, the said Galileo . . . have rendered yourself vehemently suspected by this Holy Office of heresy, that is, of having believed and held the doctrine (which is false and contrary to the Holy and Divine Scriptures) that the sun is the center of the world, and that it does not move from east to west, and that the earth does move, and is not the center of the world; also, that an opinion can be held and supported as probable, after it has been declared and finally decreed contrary to the Holy Scripture, and, consequently, that you have incurred all the censures and penalties enjoined and promulgated in the sacred canons and other general and particular constituents against delinquents of this description. From which it is Our pleasure that you be absolved, provided that with a sincere heart and unfeigned faith, in Our presence, you abjure, curse, and detest, the said error and heresies, and every other error and heresy contrary to the Catholic and Apostolic Church of Rome.

The video clearly shows the enforcement of leftist blasphemy laws. A conservative who did not tow the line and walk lock step with the prescribed narrative was threatened with a trip to the hospital in an ambulance.
