Kowacie threw down his thunderous dunk, I felt that he is probably the best freshman we have signed since Keyontae! He seems to be growing in height, and his shooting threes is a good percentage. My wife seeing him live at the Oklahoma State game, said who is that. Of course she was laughing at his hair, I said my nickname for him is the Rooster! I said I don’t care what his hair is doing, he is focused and is from a good family. He hit some free throws and three. With this, my wife said, he is focused, this after seeing him hit his free throws given him. He doesn't pout, he is doing what the team needs. We need him at SF so the threes rain and he can get better around the rim, not only put backs, but rebounds and steals. He seems like he doesn’t know his own body strengths, this due to playing against older guys in the league. His body, as he gets stronger, which is already very good, will get both stronger and if he keeps growing, he could write his name in the Florida Gator record books. Definitely one of my favorite players on the team!
Dude is MONEY from the corner, and coming on big time! Great post bullish! I was disappointed early in the season, no more! Getting it done and making us better. Gonna be a monster for us.
If he doesn't hit a late season slump and Jones can do anything close to what he's done the last month... ok ok I'm buying UK tickets UF 20-11 finish SEC Champs the CEILING IS THE ROOF!!! Haha
My favorite moment from Reeves this season wasn’t even a basketball play. I think it was a Tennessee player who put his hand near Kowacie’s face to try to annoy him and Kowacie’s calm demeanor quickly changed then he swatted the guys hand and almost went after him but something happened to stop it. I think a timeout was called. It happened really quickly, but I was like ok the young man has some grit.
If Jones continues his current shooting of the last three games from 3 - (I think it's 44%?) this is a different Gator team. VERY DIFFERENT. Reeves and Jones helping the Apple with the deep ball could really make UF a tough out going into late Feb. Yes, we have not been playing top SEC teams during this stretch but it sure seems to me the Gators are improving. The acid tests are next, lets see if our guys can knock a couple of those Quad 1 teams out!!
I really like him. I am old and some of us sported weird hair in our youth. In 1969 I sported hair that would be called grunge hair many years later. And I wore plaid shirts. I was so far ahead of my time. LOL. Come to think of it I still was like that in 1985 when I spent a week with my thesis advisor in Seattle and played a lot of pinball. I had been at UF for a couple of years and they were concerned that I might leave. I fit right in to the local scene even though I was an engineering prof. That was a really cool time and the grunge scene was just starting.
He’s definitely improving, but shot selection is still sketchy sometimes. Not abnormal for a freshman though.
You keep taking me back to my early days in Gainseville. 1970/71 I drove to Gainseville to see my older brother at Florida, he was a Sigma Chi. We went to football, basketball, baseball games and track and field meets. At night in the fall, fraternity row was rocking. I had started growing my hair out. By the spring and summer we would go surfing on the weekends at St. Augustine Blow hole surf spot. My hair was long and I would split the hair down the middle, like the Indians. I lot of my friends would dye their hair, mostly bangs, with peroxide. Mine was sun bleached from the sun. At night the university used to have free concerts on the lawn by the library at the time. Saw a lot of professional bands. Good times. Also the old in and out drive-in late night, skeeters for breakfast, Leonardo’s for pizza. The Great Southern Music Hall where I saw Steve Martin perform and many good bands. So yea, it was hard to focus on school at those times with meeting many girls. I don’t regret this growing up away from home. Add in Tom Petty with Mudcrutch and his and his friends festival in Micanopy. Oh the sixties and seventies in Gainseville, Florida!
Sounds like a bit of Gainesville Green there. Nothing wrong with that. The Red Hot Chili Peppers played at least one frat party at UF before they got famous. And U2 played at the Rathskeller before it burned down. More people claimed that they were there than claimed that they were at Woodstock. LOL. I saw two great free concerts at UF. One was the Plasmatics. The other was the B-52's at the band shell.
Reeves is without question the most important returning player to our program. He has already demonstrated an almost flawless jump shot. By the end of this season, he will not only be on the first team freshman team but will get mentions for pre-season all-SEC. Jitobhoh or Reed C, Reneau PF, Felder SF, Reeves SG, Aberdeen PG is a dangerous starting 5. That is why I want Mike White back next year. He deserves one more year to put it together with a young, athletic, and talented team. He will hopefully have a bulked-up Gatkek and a wiry Reed both at 6'10" to add some length off the bench. You will have Lane and Kennedy as backup guards. We need to get at least 4 serviceable players in the portal to take this program to the next level (a small forward perhaps out of community college), another center, and two combo guards.
Why, after 7 years of not knowing how to coach, does he deserve one more year? We’ve had good recruits and transfers before.
Only team to win first round game last 4 years. I think one more year has been earned. Just my opinion
I remember that Wendy Williams and the Plasmatics concert soon after I showed up on campus at the tender age of 18. I saw some crazy chit there and realized I wasn't in Kansas anymore and I'm surprised I survived that first quarter.
Very well spoken young man. I would like to see what he looks like after a year in the weight room and working out with guys like McKissic and Fleming.
I actually was there at the U2 show in the Rat. They only had one modest hit, "I Will Follow", at the time, and it was the one that got the biggest response, so they played it twice. Which was odd. I also got to watch Wendy O. Williams and the Plasmatics blow up a Cadillac at Lake Alice. Didn't see the B-52s, though.
