I was working in Maine and now Connecticut. I say it, on purpose, just to see the reactions. It’s a hoot.

I can relate to that. Using “y’all” has identified me as a southerner outside my circle of friends and family many times. It is such a useful, functional term I don’t think I could carry on many conversations without it.

I use the term “all y’all” but, looking at it written makes me think it is redundant speech. “Y’all” encompasses “all”.

It’s kind of like “eh” for Canadians. We had a cottage in Ontario and I picked up on “eh” pretty quickly. My wife used to tell me I can’t say eh cause I’m not Canadian, but I still use it sometimes because it works so easily

I love a southern woman who uses y'all like dude.

As in, "y'all, that's some good ass fried chicken right there!"

It includes buttermilk and an ass load of Crisco. Where "ass load" simply means a whole bunch.

My wife and I worked up a word game to see how MANY times one can connect a word in front or back of the word, "ass."
    Smartass...
    Dumbass...
    Hardass...
    Stupidass...
    Redass... (My father's favorite)
    Slickass...
    Etc...
(I am liking the word, ass load more and more.)
Feel free to add more to this list!
