Reminds me of the shenanigans that took place in Tallahassee when Fisher was in charge.

Except you DID drag Meyer into it, and UF along with him. You mentioned Meyer's name three times in this post alone.

Meyer and UF never did anything near what is going on at UGA, so stop comparing apples to oranges, and dragging us into the mud with them.

So Urban is not UF. Being an employee of the UAA doesn't make him the UAA. He was a coach for the Gators. But lets be clear here. No one ever stated that the UAA nor Urban interfered with police investigations. Nor did I insinuate anything of that sort. What I did imply was that Urban was winning, like Kirby, but the arrest record of his players were racking up. That's a fact. Now, true, generally, the arrests here were for your run-of-the mill stupid stuff, excluding some of the more egregious stuff such as felony stalking, domestic violence, etc.) but like Georgia now, Florida was at the top of the world, and our warts became that much more obvious. 30 arrests led to a stigma associated with Urban, and the Gator program, at that time. That's what I mean by entering that "phase." It's only misleading if you read it as something as far more than what was stated.

AJC's looking into this will lead to other media outlets looking at it as well. Not a good thing for UGA when the most prominent newspaper in the south starts looking and reporting critically at your football program. Investigations cost us the SEC Championship and possible NC in 1984 for far less issues.

The more I think about it, IMO those "other offenses" could have included manslaughter, obstruction of justice, felony lying to the police, rape, sexual battery, aggravated sexual battery, domestic assault and/or aggravated domestic assault. What else? Nobody will ever know because of that "confidential campus disciplinary system." This is as bad as things get. I think my original use of "corruption" was too lenient.

I'm on this board several times over the years harping on this distinction of when things changed for Bama and Georgia as well as the difference between us and them. Florida is not spotless and our athletes definitely have privileges regular students or citizens don't but we have nothing that comes close to the complete and total complicity of the school, police, government and boosters to support winning at all costs that Saban organized and Smart brought to UGA.

The media turning a blind eye to it while Florida has always gotten raked through the coals is probably the biggest reason I've been turned off from college football.

Exactly!! The GPD arrested a player for, and I believe I am quoting, “barking back”. UGA has some Bobby Bowden type “things” going on.

I do not think the comparison is fair at all. What was the worst infraction under Urban Myer??

They have literally gotten people killed for football, nothing should be surprising.

Well ….. the use of adjectives to inflame is not uncommon, especially on social media. Interesting and a bit sad that “Meyer” can have either a positive or negative connotation when used to characterize a period of Gator football history.

I seem to remember a player getting arrested for throwing a sandwich and paper cup?

You are correct, but this wasn't under Meyer. I believe it was 2 years after Meyer left.
I saw the police footage (showed here on GC.)

The player- a DB- was simply walking by a police car late at night w/ teammates.
The player saw the dog in the car and said in a quiet voice "ruff ruff." Again- in a quiet voice- very casual- almost to himself.
Basically saying hi to the dog in a silly way.

This idiot cop then treats our DB like he just assaulted someone and put handcuffs on him.
The GPD actually came out and apologized the next day- and dropped all charges.

So while again this wasn't under Meyer- it COMPLETELY makes the point.
While the Athens cops "would never do anything to hurt their beloved dogs" and covering up rape, street racing, and a player getting killed, the GPD were literally arresting our guys for saying "ruff ruff.'
Or throwing sandwiches, getting their own car out of an impound lot, or getting off a bus at the main bus stop.

So yeah- the UGA stuff is far beyond anything under Meyer.

So whats being pointed out here?

GPD is non-sympathetic to Athletes as compared to Athens police?

Or is it that when programs become very successful - Under Urban / under Kirby that the success and fame enables bad behavior from the athletes?

    Or both?

I'm not one to throw stones at players but the stuff coming out of Athens is disturbing, especially when deaths or rapes are involved.

But then again, given Americans penchant to put (SUCCESSFUL) athletes / program on pedestals, isn't this to be expected?

Hopefully, the AJC will be to uga as the St Pete Timews was to UF!

True, barking at a police dog will get you arrested in Gainesville

I disremember the sandwich, but he did get arrested fro throwing an EMPTY paper cup. Do you think the cops in, say Miami, would even respond to that call?
