And righties make the same argument when convenient-see any gun legislation mentioned on here.

There’s a difference between passing more laws and giving someone immunity from the ones that exist.

If you know the law doesn’t apply to you in the first place because you’re immune from prosecution, what’s the deterrent from complying?

Certainty of being caught and punished has a direct correlation with a reduction in criminal activity. Many studies in criminology support this. In this case of police officers with qualified immunity face no real repercussions and thus no substantial threat of repercussions.

I’d need to see those arguments to say whether they are in fact inconsistent but it is not inherently inconsistent on its face. Making things illegal is not effective without a corresponding certainty of punishment. You cannot enforce without it being illegal and it won’t deter without certainty of punishment.

This is the result of the movement in 2020 not succeeding. Sooner or later, there will be another 2020.

Read the article, the answer is there. Work towards fixing this paragraph.

“According to CBS News' investigation, problems were more prevalent in smaller, more remote communities where deputies typically had less training, fewer resources and limited oversight. These factors allowed sheriff misconduct to continue for longer, becoming more severe and brazen before it was discovered.”

The article also shows that police, I.E cities, do a much better job than sheriffs. The reason seems clear (to me anyway), while not perfect certainly, they have gone through the fire of public pushback already and have made adjustments. The sheriffs offices haven’t because they haven’t been forced to. Time for them to get the same scrutiny, articles like this are a first step.

That is a very crazy stat in a time where crime is hovering near all time lows. Not sure what to think.

When police behave like criminals treat them accordingly.

Probably because in 2020 & 2021 police shootings were written off as COVID deaths. Y'all do remember that shit don't ya????
