I'd assume something like this:

Not sure what you mean - likely my fault. The Newsweek piece did not seem to show the Kentucky Legislator and Survivor Champion defending his bill. I assume, perhaps wrongly, that lawyer was talking about a point of law that Florida lawyers learn in Bar prep - that you can legally marry your first cousin. But I didn't see the Kentucky bill as addressing who you can marry - just incest definition as a criminal offense

 

That's exactly the reason for the prohibition.

 

Maybe he is just standing up against "woke" diversity initiatives, in this case genetic diversity.

 

Or people who can't spell.

 

Yeah, "keeping it in the family" seems like one way to ensure the blood of offspring will remain sufficiently pure and not be tainted by unwanted diversity.
