    Not exactly the argument I would have made...

    Different, but I had a lot of time for Galen Hall. He got railroaded. He was too nice a guy for the job.

    "Railroaded." I disagree. UF was under threat of the death penalty, back when the NCAA still had teeth. We couldn't afford to break the rules, and he was strictly forbidden by UF to break the rules, but he went ahead and did so anyway.

    I’m sure you are right my friend. It was long ago and I wasn’t as much of a fan then. I recalled it as being a trivial amount of money for bus fare home for a family problem, something any caring adult might have done. But as I acknowledge, it could have been something much more serious.

    It was something minor, similar to what you describe. Galen Hall was a good guy but he knew the situation and that there was to be NO rule-breaking. Zero. We were on probation for a whole slew of major violations perpetrated by win-at-all-costs Charley Pell. One slip-up could have brought us the death penalty. Ask Southern Methodist how not-fun that is.
    To its credit, UF implemented a model structure to comply with NCAA rules after the Pell mess. We have a compliance office, for all coaches and staff to go to if they have any questions about rules.

    GP - Of course you are correct, but I still side with Singapore.
    I still FUME over the BS treatment by the NCAA AND IN PARTICULAR certain SEC "Programs" that were out to crucify UF.

    Something is clearly wrong with that system. How many teams have done what the Gators have done recently? Hardly any, I'd wager.

    Last year, 7 SEC teams made the Tournament (NET ranking):

    South Carolina (4)
    Texas A&M (11)
    Georgia (13)
    Tennessee (14)
    Arkansas (17)
    Kentucky (18)
    Alabama (33)

    Three other SEC teams with a better NET ranking than 45 missed the Tournament:

    Missouri (39)
    Ole Miss (42)
    Mississippi State (44)

    It also wasn't a good look for the SEC as teams as only 2 teams made it to the second weekend, and only 2 teams matched their seeding in terms of results (Carolina/Alabama).

    Last year, only 5 teams moved more than 7 spots from early February (2/4) to the end of the conference tournament:

    +13, Ole Miss (55 -> 42)
    -11, Vanderbilt (144 -> 155)
    +10, Auburn (128 -> 118)
    +8, Arkansas (25 -> 17)
    +8, Georgia (21 -> 13)

    Out of 11 teams ranked #40 through #50 last year in NET, 1 auto qualifier, 6 at-large, 4 not selected. I believe BYU at #50 was the last at-large team selected by NET.

    All that said, if this team keeps playing on fire like they have been, I don't think there's any question they'll make the tournament, but this NET thing is a head scratcher.

    Go GATORS!

    That's why I despise NCAA and SEC office for trying to keep UF down.

    Should have stopped at, "GP, of course you are correct." The rest doesn't help your thesis.

    Maybe the deal to retain is already made (contract signed) but KRF does not want to go public right now to keep her team hungry and motivated?

    We are #3 in the SEC, which is the #1 conference. We are a game behind TN who we beat head to head.

    It's one of the most mind-boggling Gator team stories in a long time.

    I don’t understand Stricklin. He did everything he can do to keep the ousted HC. Yet, he slow play this young lady. Maybe something was done already like the someone mentioned here. But if there was something done, we would have heard about it or reported in ESPN even. I always see flash reports at the bottom of my tv screen every time I watch a program in ESPN.

    I dislike Stricklin. A lot. So my theory is tainted by my dislike of him.

    But I don't think he wants to hire Finley. He didn't have much choice but to promote her, but he'd rather hire someone else for the position. She does not fit the profile of head coaches he likes to hire.

    He's holding out on hiring her until he has no choice but to hire her, or until a late swoon/disappointing tourney performance gives him the option of not hiring her.

    That would be my guess. But, as I said, I have no faith in his ability to hire coaches, nor in his acting in the best interests of our women's programs. I dislike him. A lot.
