KC Chiefs kicker complains about "emasculation of men," gay pride & says women should be homemakers

Some of us live more than one life. You figure out what I mean by that.

My wife had a tough upbringing and will tell you that’s when the best times for her started as I would about marrying her. I had a great life growing up but not near the personal uplifting loving environment until I married and we became best friends.

 

And catholic?

 

I am well aware that insisting on basic equality and human dignity for all citizens is deeply offensive and polarizing to much of the populace, and has led to backlash. It is the story of human history, including that of our nation. Redemption redux

 

No, initially Methodist but now non-denominational. Why does that matter? Butker was actually attacking a lot of Catholics in that speech.

 

Did he specifically call out my wife and our relationship? No. But Butker's speech was basically a woman will only know true happiness if she's a married housewife taking care of her kids at home. Does that describe my wife? No.

If you asked Butker who has a happier wife, he'd likely claim his own wife, because she's a stay at home mother, and my wife works, often 50+ hours a week. But I'd say my wife is quite happy with her own life, and wouldn't change a thing. Nor would I want her to change. I'd call Butker's stance sanctimonious, and I stand by that statement.

 

I think denomination matters and I don’t think he attacked anyone.

As a Catholic, much of what he said is offensive to me and most mainstream adherents of Catholicism. Here he is attacking the Bishops:

A lot of his speech is pretty standard stuff for a very small group of Catholics that reject the church post Vatican II.

Regardless, the point was comparing the censoring of somebody who would say something controversial about Israel/Palestine with a person who said a series of very controversial things even within the Catholic Church.

The only people up in arms are the minority left and those that despise the Church. So now you see things like the OP and such hoping to silence people they disagree with. Which is why the OP uses snippets to insinuate a false narrative to what was presented.

And we end up with a lot of ignorant comments and beliefs when this happens. As we have seen in this thread.

You should be offended by the head of the Catholic Church right now. And many of the bishops. I know my mom is. And he is right that they should be called out for conforming to the culture instead of standing up for the teachings of Jesus and the Bible.

 

I am not. Instead, I am offended by the people who are arrogant and narcissistic enough to tell me what should offend me about my religion. Sound like somebody you know?

Just letting you know that if you are going to follow the teachings of Jesus and the Bible...the Pope and many Bishops are failing the Catholic Church. And that imo you have a faux outrage to protect the ones failing the Church it appears. At least if you are offended by that speech and the part where Butker calls out the leaders in the Catholic Church that are failing in their duties.

 

I'm not too invested, but my understanding of the Catholic hierarchy is that the Pope sort of has more say over what Catholics believe than the kicker for the Kansas City Chiefs.

 

Sometimes. But that does want mean running to religion as a substitute for the hard parts.

Thanks, but I think that your knowledge of the teachings of Jesus is probably about your level of knowledge about medical information. You know somebody who read a book once but you are very confident in your own knowledge. Good luck with that, but I will go with the people who spent their life studying the topic, in all its immense and glorious complexity, not the simplistic and exclusionary spiritual stylings of the dental office or kicker room for the Chiefs.

He and the college certainly have a right to these terrible views. I feel bad for the students who had their graduations ruined by some nut hijacking their commencement speech to broadcast his awful political views.

 

Cancel culture is embarrassing and sad. Don't care who is pushing it.
