Yes, I know that. A large majority of Americans favor abortion rights, but we know how that worked out. When they get the power, radical right wingers will do EVERYTHING they have been advocating for, and more, when it comes to highly emotional religious/cultural issues. They will do whatever they can get away with. They always have. The bottom line: fundamentalist Christians are trying to use the power of the government to force all Americans to live according to fundamentalist Christian principles. Abortion is one perfect example of that. Major religions have differing opinions on abortion, but only the fundamentalist Christian view on that issue is now the law.

And if you think that outlawing contraceptives won't happen due to the opinions of the majority of Americans, please understand that the Supreme Court that would do that is already in place, so voters cannot stop that from happening. What are you and other Republicans who support the right to use contraceptives going to do about it if it were to happen, vote out the justices who will have ruled that way?

You also seem to forget that the obviation of the issue the court used to end Roe, which was the right to privacy, is the exact issue the earlier court in the Griswold case used to allow for the right to use contraceptives. The Supreme Court has already obliterated the right to privacy relative to abortions, and Justice Thomas indicated that the same issue should be looked at relative to outlawing contraceptives.

I think that you are lying to yourself, just like some who favor abortion rights did with that issue, and any right wingers who are trying now to minimize the chances of contraceptives being outlawed sound like the right wingers who, for decades, pooh poohed the idea that Roe would actually be overturned. Some of those people were being deviously dishonest, and some were simply naive, but ALL of them were wrong, as are you, if you really believe that the right to use contraceptives is not in danger of being overruled.

And I reiterate the original point of the OP, which was that Republicans will attempt to get the voters to believe that the Republicans are much more moderate about abortion than they actually are, and that effort will be a very dishonest one designed to gaslight the majority of Americans about the issue, just like was done with the abortion issue.

I agree but I don't think it will work. As an example in an attempt to gain majorities in both Houses of the Virginia State Legislature Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin proposed a "reasonable" 15-week ban. The voters saw through the farce and not only to did he fail to flip the State Senate from D to R he lost the General Assembly where the Republicans had a small majority prior to the election. Somewhat anecdotal based on commercials in swing districts the Republicans ran almost entirely on the issue of crime while the Democrats ran on the abortion issue.

That may have some merit, but thats a big leap from opposing it.

I agree with you that it will not work. There are endless hours of Republicans bloviating about ending all abortion, much of it very recent. People would have to be utterly stupid to believe that nonsense. This is simply another example of Republicans lying. Nikki Haley has been captured on video many times saying she would sign any abortion bill presented to her, including an outright ban. She cannot get away with that, nor can Trump or any Republican House or Senate candidates, either at the state or federal levels.

Check out how Colorado reduced abortions dramatically from 2009-2016. In 2015 the state GOP voted to end the program that cut the abortion rate from 11.4 to 7.4 per 1000 women (and cut the teen abortion rate in half). Rates stay low for a little longer while the program was able to get creative in their funding, but eventually they had to stop providing free long-lasting contraceptives. Abortion rates in Colorado in 2022 were 11.8 per 1000. It is almost like the GOP isn't really about reducing abortions.
