Collins backed Flake too. And with three republicans in the fold, no way Dems will say no, so this will happen.

Okay, I am very perplexed by Trump. He's taking a neutral tone, not attacking Dr. Ford, and is not saying something stupid and reactionary.

Yeah, I don't know why he decided to take the deny everything approach.

If it didn't happen, why do they fear perjury?

Dems: We'll take every word she claims as gospel, just as did with Julie Swetnick.

This statement is the nail in the coffin, either Ford is lying or the girlfriend(Keyser) is lying.
If Keyser is telling the truth, that she never partied with Kavanaugh it puts a huge hole in Ford's story.

It could be that Ford with her hazy/faulty memory has taken TWO separate events (attending a party with Kavanaugh and attending a party with Keyser where she may have been assaulted) and made them one event.

Ok. So since the 9/11 hijackers were willing to kill themselves to destroy the WTC, does that mean their cause was righteous, and that America is the great Satan?

Being willing to give up your life for something you believe doesn’t automatically make you right. Otherwise most of the liberals in here owe white supremacists an apology, since white supremacists are willing to tear apart their own lives and endure ridicule for their beliefs.

I was thinking that as well, but it's also probably a very small set of instances where someone misremembers an attacker that they knew. So if a false allegation is unlikely, that would be even more unlikely. I can't explain why she would do that, but also can explain why he would attack her based on what we heard about him. I guess without knowing the people at least the speculation is worthless.

She submitted a sworn affidavit and was willing to testify. Should we just completely write that off? Do you know what she's risking?

Except that's not what the statement said.

If you want to believe that Ford decided to destroy her own life for some lying partisan political reason, that's your business. I really have no response.

Keyser said she believed Ford. She also said she doesn't remember attending the party or meeting Kavanaugh. Not sure why people refuse to see the difference? I am pretty sure everyone here--if they are honest--cannot recall every party they might have attended 10-20-30 years ago, or when they were juveniles where nothing remarkable happened to them. Not sure why then people can't even deign to understand if something violent and traumatic happened, such a person would indeed remember the incident itself and who the perp was, but can also easily forget minor details?

I think some people are too afraid to consider anything outside of cynical motivations about women. Leads to dishonesty, firstly with themselves.

If you're going on an evidentiary basis, "I believe her" is literally useless - it's just bolstering.

The only evidentiary facts in her statements are that she does not know Brett Kavanaugh and has no recollection of having ever attended a party or gathering where he was present, either with or without Dr. Ford. Each of which are unequivocally supportive of Kavanaugh's position.

Righteous is in the eye of the beholder, but I think it’s good evidence that they believed in what they were doing. I don’t know if Ford and Kavanaugh ever met, but I believe that she believes what she’s saying.

The request for a short investigation is bi-partisan and thus a good thing. More information regarding so many unaddressed questions is also a good thing. I think a visit by the FBI and the weight and gravity that they bring with them may cause moments of increased clarity and memory in some people and may find other corroborating or exculpatory witnesses . If we end up right where we are now (2 people with believable yet contradictory testimony), at least then it was because there just isn't further information out there. If nothing else, the investigation has the potential to keep this from being an even more tribal event than it already is.

Rather than ask her if she knew Kavanaugh, it might would help if they asked her if she remembers any small gathering where a couple of boys there were staggering drunk. That kind of behavior can make a small gathering stand out in one's memory. The ones there who might not remember it would be the two boys who were staggering drunk.

Her claims were off the rails of the crazy train. She lied and was never going to testify.
