Immediately what I suspected as well which is why I asked for a link. That is a dumb claim to make after many outlets are reporting she told the GOP senators last night she would not file charges.
This is another lie that she told: "When told later by Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, that his staff would have flown out to her to get her testimony, Ford thanked him and said she wasn't aware that was an option. She knows better it was all in the news that were willing to fly out and have it done in private. The Democrats in my opinion did not want that as it would deny their day in front of the cameras to put on their 3 ring circus
Poor timing indeed. All the way around. I think Klobuchar was making a good point when she said many, many cases have timing issues. The question becomes, "What do we do about it now?". Is the timing of the findings more important than the importance of the findings themselves? Since a seemingly arbitrary "drop dead date" was set before all relevant information came in, should that new information be summarily dismissed with the rationalization being accusations and personal partisan attacks by either side?? I know I keep using the RE business as examples, and that's because that's the industry I know, but as this goat rope unfolds I am amazed just how similar they are with respect to procedures and rules of evidence. Let's say we have a sale of a house with a closing date determined by a "rule of thumb" rather than the scope of the deal. The contract expires next Tuesday, the rate lock on the proposed mortgage on Tuesday, both buyer and seller have already made arrangements with the movers, so Tuesday is pretty much a drop dead date. However, not all the details of the transaction have come in to get a "drop dead" deal approval. On Friday, the appraisal comes back below contract price base on a thoroughly investigated, well meaning, supporte, technically competent and legally compliant appraisal, so the mortgage is delayed. Then, the title search finds clouds on the title so they can't issue a title policy. If the "drop dead" date is extended, it's most definitely a PITA for everyone, no doubt. However, if extended, maybe we find out that it's a bad deal all around due to the property not being able to serve as adequate collateral for the loan and possible external claims to the tile of the property itself. If they closed, and this stuff pops up after the fact, now we have MAJOR problems. If they extend the closing date, and additional investigation solves the appraisal issue (more data to support the contract price, renegotiation of the contract price, etc) and also clears up the title issues, and then close they deal then everyone knows they have a clean deal. Ideally, the issues should have been identified and addressed well before they did, but they didn't. So which is more important? The timing of the deal, or the legitimacy of the deal? The only one-size-fits-all answer to that question is: "Depends on the situation and depends on the deal". You can probably tell how many times I have seen the scenario I layed out. So many I lost count after it got into the thousands. And you can also well imagine the amount of name calling, false accusing, water muddying, and other skullduggerous hijinx much like what we have seen in the Kavanaugh case.
When did Feinstein call for the Pubs to quickly put forward another nomination, and hopefully one like Gorsuch who doesn't feel compelled to lie to the committee?
We can't change the past. But we can still discuss it. When we see such a horrendous breach of performance by those who are compensated richly as well as given our votes of confidence to guide our nation.....discussion of the past is not only warranted...it should be mandatory. Don't let the present day drama suck the oxygen out of the room. And for heaven's sake...NEVER forget the big picture.
Well first …. Ford's not a victim as far as anyone knows. She seemingly has issues to be "worked out" but …. concocting this story is not how that is done. WRT any investigation that could have taken place as regards her claims, both she and Feinsten screwed the pooch on this matter. Of course, they had a great deal of help in mishandling this matter. So it goes.
There was plenty of time to investigate this matter when Feinstein forwarded the letter she received on or near the first of August 2018 to the FBI. Or when Ford contacted Maryland law enforcement sometime over the last 35+ years. She did forward the letter …. didn't she?
Whats new ? Everybody you disagree with is a liar, a weasel, or a good for nothing So we wish the Democrats would be honest and admit there is no proff of what she claims but they just dont like President Trump getting a second pick. They need to grow up because in the next six years President Trump could very well get another three selections for the SC and they will not get more likeable to the Democrates
Yes, there has been an investigation. Sworn statements and/or testimony from all of the attendees of the alleged party. All the evidence that can be reasonably collected after 35+ years. And all the testimony but Ford’s is saying that no one else recalls such a party. But of course, she can’t be mistaken, and everyone else must be lying. Again, you are relying on lawyer speak in a sworn statement about an event that occurred 35+ years ago to weasel out of the only reasonable conclusion, which is that not one of the other attendees remembers the party that she alleged happened. 5 out of 6 people say that we don’t recall the party, but that one person must be telling the truth. And hanging your hat on a statement that is worded to avoid any possibility of being charged with perjury is laughable at best. Any lawyer would word it the same way, especially if those people could have attended other parties with Kavanaugh.
All of the alleged witnesses have sent their testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee. Why have them sit in front of that bunch and repeat the same thing. It would be another partisan political circus ….. which is what the mindless lefties desire. It's just a waste ……. more waste.
The big picture is exactly the issue. The big picture is that he's up for a lifetime appointment on SCOTUS. Ramming him through without an investigation because Feinstein misbehaved is not the appropriate solution. You didn't dispute a single point I made. In fact, you just supported what I said by claiming she made it up. You can't believe her testimony if she made it up. Scott is talking out of both sides of his mouth.
As you may note in the post you quoted, I agree with you on that point. Perhaps I should have been more clear. I have also in this thread mentioned that I thought Feinstein should be up for sanction/censure for holding this until the last minute and not investigating. You may also note, that I believe investigation shouldn't even matter now. Kavanaugh repeatedly perjured himself in the hearing, and behaved poorly. He'd have held himself in contempt if he was a judge running that hearing. His nomination should be withdrawn or defeated straight up based on his behavior yesterday.
She did but it was not in Aug it was : "A Justice Department spokesperson said the FBI had forwarded the initial letter from Sen. Dianne Feinstein on September 12 to the White House counsel's office in accordance with guidelines for conducting background checks.
First, all politicians talk out of both sides of their mouths, especially when it is necessary to avoid ruffling the voters. In this particular situation and in the current #metoo political climate - it would be suicide for him to come out and say he doesn't believe her. His statement was very measured and perfectly orchestrated by a politician, regardless of how we as non-politicians see it.
If there was even 1 of the four people who were there had confirmed that the get together even took place, I would agree that there should be an FBI investigation. But fact is that even a delay of a week is just going to give the democrats more time to fish for another false accuser. There have been stories that they are working the horn calling women looking for them to make claims. They won't stop until you make them
Feinstein received the letter on either July 30th or the 31st. Did nothing with it until the 12th of september
