He was much less belligerent to me in the opening than later on. He constantly interrupted the Democratic Senators, he made snide comments, and he tried talking over them at multiple points. That's not even getting to his tone. I agree the Dems knew that. Doesn't change that he was evasive on a number of questions. And there were other answers he gave that were dishonest.
Thank you. Senator Booker actually did a nice job today. One of the few Senators who kept Judge Kavanaugh from chewing up valuable time with his rambling.
It has to do with the trauma more than the flying. I spoke at length with a colleague of mine today. 40 years in psychiatry, active practice currently, specialized in substance abuse for 20 years, registered Republican. His example was: imagine if you were flying to Disney world, or flying to a firing squad. How much more amplified would your fears be due to the thing waiting for you on the other end? His other take: not one thing Ford said set off his BS radar. Kavanaugh set off several. So yeah, the opinion of a professional.
And if the accuracy of the lie detector test is questionable why didn't the Republican Chair of the Committee ask the the polygraph operator who conducted the test to tensity? He probably would have voluntarily agreed to testify if requested and could have always be subpoenaed.
Don’t see him not getting confirmed...while he clearly isn’t the choir boy he’s making it out to be, his forceful performance will get him passed, whether he is lying or not about the allegation. He and Republicans better hope that nothing comes out after he gets appointed. I foresee a woman nominee next time around.
Republicans abandoned their "experienced prosecutor" because she apparently wasn't equipped to handle it. Of course, she just happened to be up to the task until Kavanaugh was the person being questioned.
I think he'll be confirmed. If it happens, I'll be changing my stance on the court-packing plan some liberals have discussed (I think @PerSeGator might have mentioned it on here?). If the Republicans put Kavanaugh on SCOTUS, I'll be in full support of the Dems adding more seats to SCOTUS if they get a filibuster-proof majority in 2020. Kavanaugh has no business on the court after all of this. It would delegitimize SCOTUS for me. And as a lawyer, I never thought I'd say that.
I love all the bending over backwards and excuse making for the glaring inconsistencies in Ford’s statements you guys do but of course, when it comes to Kavanaugh, there is zero margin for error. And BS that it has more to do with the trauma. She has clearly stated that she had a fear of flying. Nice try, though.
I suspect what that means is, when virtually every other democratic question became “but can we have an FBI investigation?,” they felt that they needed to use their time to yell at Democrats for being obstructionists, which their special counsel clearly was not in a place to do.
Graham with the quote of the year. The most unethical sham since he's been in politics: 25 years (probably below average for the typical career politician in the Senate). I've been following politics somewhat closely for about 20 years. I couldn't agree more.
That’s just BS. Not one person after her asked a single question about what happened until Kennedy. It was an apologetic slobber fest.
Things I learned today- Ralphing= throwing up spaghetti Boff= Fart Black out = gently fall asleep after a long day.
I just want people to remember that a person who is supposed to be non-partisan and an impartial judge . . . 1. Blamed "the left" for the allegations; 2. Claimed it was a conspiracy from Hillary Clinton; 3. Promised political retaliation; and 4. Consistently acted disrespectfully to the Democratic Senators asking him questions. Kavanaugh came off as a partisan hack today. Even if it's just for appearance's sake, a person up for SCOTUS should at least give off the impression that he's (or she's) not political. There's something very wrong about putting that man on SCOTUS, even aside from the allegations.
And I'm sure there will be some on here accusing me of just being upset because a conservative is being put on SCOTUS. Unfortunately, it looks like the Gorsuch thread is gone. But I was on record saying that Gorsuch was a qualified nominee who deserved bipartisan support. I complained about the Democrats refusing to vote for him.
Looks like Cavanaugh did pretty well to me... The Democratic stall ruse looks to have failed... too bad.
