I agree 100+% with enforcing anti-trust laws on companies who price gouge or price fix to the detriment of the American consumer in violation of such laws. If that makes me a Komrade, then hell yeah I'm a komrade. As we all should be.

If her plan includes rent controls of any sorts as Biden previously mentioned, I agree 0% with that. They've never worked other than to allow real estate to devalue and run down and disincentivize investors from maintaining and reinvesting/modernizing their buildings.

Just to make it clear and it's rather obvious your definition of weaponization is the enforcement of laws in a manner that you do not approve of one way or the other whether it's enforcement of laws against mishandling of classified documents by a former president or illegal collusion to fix prices by corporations in the food supply chain.

And it was Nixon's price controls combined with a compliant Fed that juiced up the economy that led to the stagflation of the 1970s.

It’s Breitbart. Nobody’s going to click that trash.

Besides that point, we can see from your summary you are dishonestly attempting to conflate “price gouging” and investigating possible anti-competitive trade practices as the same thing as the govt literally setting prices. It’s not the same at all. So either you are regurgitating without thinking, or you yourself are trying to mislead or troll. Neither is a good look.

Most likely this is just a politician offering talking points to a popular thing people are complaining about. Like when politicians are quick to blame “speculators” when oil prices rise too much for comfort. At this time inflation appears largely in the rearview mirror anyway, so truly there is nothing for govt to do going forward. But no politician is going to give people a hard truth like that. Something has to be done (or at least the appearance of doing something). In either case, if they find a few scalps in big food or in real estate doing collusion or unfair trade practices that is not a bad thing, nor is it “Soviet style price fixing”. I suspect it will be difficult to find an obvious case in food (like there was for insulin, for example). I think real estate on the other has a lot of shadiness that could be uncovered.

Republicans seems confused that economic populism isn't just turning up the racism dial by 10% and screaming "CHINA!"

Although it's completely off-topic the best example of why Breitbart shouldn't be considered credible is an article that the platform ran several years ago. The article was entitled something to the effect "Illegal alien arrested for starting deadly wildfire". It turned out that the person who was arrested wasn't an undocumented immigrant he was a homeless American with an Hispanic surname and he was arrested for starting a small fire in a county park to keep warm not the deadly wildfire.

    Enforce antitrust laws = bad

Impose tariffs that pass through to the American consumer to increase the price of goods = good.

This republican party is certainly undergoing an unrecognizable Freaky Friday-like transition to the very things it used to abhor.

My question is if we need these policies so badly, why isn't she able to get her boss to implement them now? Especially after suffering from inflation 3+ years already. In fact, most inflation gauges are coming down, so the time to do this would have been 2 years ago, if there ever was a good time to do this at all.

Since the Biden administration has been negotiating lower drug prices over the last 43 months, is there really a need for this "policy"? Or is this just "fluff", an empty commitment?

Let's be realistic-what VP in history other than Dick Cheney (which is probably the most disastrous scenario we could drum up) has had that much influence on policy outcomes?

What did Pence ever get Trump to do that he wasn't inclined to do, or Biden with Obama? The question may be rhetorically interesting during a campaign year, but you know that at its core it's relatively hollow throughout the overall history of our country. With one disastrous exception.

Definitely not just fluff. OP is super informed about this, and he is very concerned.

You can spin it however you like, but proposing price controls at this stage in the game is borderline dangerous to dangerous. Inflation is at 2.9% now? With things like food, there's tons of competition. I think this is reaching, at best and yes, very Soviet like.

Wow, who knew all you needed to convince these folks that inflation is under control was for a vague allusion to a set of policies designed to lower prices. A day ago, they would have been outraged at all these inflation is under control vibes. Heck, they were here trying to claim the numbers were false. But today? Here they are...

And yet no one has proposed actual price controls. Once again enforcement of anti-trust laws and the negotiation of prescription drug prices are not price controls.

posted in a different thread. This proposal is terrible policy.
