True, but the big lake here is keeping us insulated from it. I mean . . . 67? That's crazy. Basically, it was cool and foggy today. It can be 90ish just to our west too, but the lake is one big air conditioner. Might get up to 72 tomorrow. We usually get a few days up around 90 late in summer. It was 85 this past Saturday, but we haven't had any sustained heat here by the lake.
Getting up to 100 here today, 102 tomorrow. We're just a few blocks west of the Chicago city limits. Should be even hotter in the far western burbs.
I mentioned how cool it has been up here this summer, but the heat is catching us this weekend. Was 92 yesterday and today will set a record at 96. That's crazy for Duluth.
27 years in Maine now. Right about this time every year I'm always ready for summer to end. I'm done with the heat and I LOVE the fall. This is the first year that I don't want summer to end. We didn't have one. It just rained all summer. The world up here was mid-June green at the end of August. Never seen that... It's been smoking hot (for up here - high 80s/low 90s) all this week just when the kids go back to the non air conditioned schools...
Many, I'd say nearly half of the homes, are turn of the century. With that, quite a few do not have A/C. Our neighborhood is 60s/70s construction and most do, but a few do not. We have A/C, but it only works marginally and we use it maybe five days per year. It was 96 on Sunday. Today's high will be 60. Yeah, summer is over for us.
Very few homes in ME have AC. Most newer homes have split duct heat pumps though, and many older homes are getting them installed.
about a mile from the Atlantic. It's generally pretty temperate at our house. Only a handful of days over 90*. Heat pumps are good for heat, too, but we can't justify the price point. If our boiler ever dies though - that'll just get yankned out. Heat pump and pellet stove only if that day comes...
I have a fireplace, which is a nice aesthetic for watching Gator games w whiskey / edibles. Would much prefer a wood-burning stove, as they actually heat the space.
Today and tomorrow back up to 106/107 in DFW area. I think one of those days is easily a record. (Records 104/100). That is very hot for any day of summer prior to a couple of years ago, but insane for September. After that cool front comes through and highs down into 90s and 80s, and hopefully that will be it for the worst of the best this summer. Summer here is kind of like Winter in MN. You just don’t venture outside, at all. As I’ve said elsewhere future summers I will make a point to get out of here and look for more temperate alternatives.
