Just curious....what month is it in your world?? In mine it is June. You seem to think it is December or January when this young man was added to the '23 recruiting class. In June you add depth pieces. Nothing wrong with that. If we were adding depth pieces in December or January your post would be spot on. So just checking, are you aware it is June?
No expert here, but he looks good to me. He stays in his lane first and then goes on to make plays. It is refreshing not to see the rush DE getting too far into the backfield and out of lane thereby giving up big plays. Containment is no small thing, and he is already doing that well on film although most of his tape is on passing plays where he is getting after the QB. He is plenty quick and has good size. Teaching him to get his pad level lower shouldn't be too difficult. He still looks like a pup. I wouldn't be surprised to see him put on more size and speed in UF's training and conditioning program, say 265-270. A rush DE with athleticism, size, and speed would be a headache for any OT. He will be behind getting in so late, fall practice only, but he'll likely see rotations as the season progresses.
He has 3yrs to be on a college campus with an elite training facility. With good coaching, he could very well grow into an inside pass rush DT. He's already 6'5 255
Whether you like Napier or not, Napier has shown an ability to analyze talent. He doesn't particularly care where other ranking systems may have an athlete and he sure doesn't care what a message board thinks. Napier would only offer a scholarship if he felt the kid will improve the team.
Looks good to me. Starter, All-SEC, All-American, top 10 NFL pick. Leave him alone, I like him. Welcome to the team, Quinces. Have fun. Get yourself a great education. Perform. Contribute. Go Gators!
Yeah, you're right. Most teams pick up a 5* in June as their 34th signee in the class for their 85th scholarship slot.
Agreed. Some of those guys playing last year were out there because of necessity, not because they were ready. Here’s to a better roster top to bottom this year.
The TE position is concerning to me, too. It seems like top echelon teams are showing how to use big sure-handed TE's to open games up these days. Not sure I'm as concerned about WR with guys like Pearsall and Andy Jean on the roster. Outgoing transfers at TE and WR did probably hurt us though.
