As I commented earlier in this thread that he was given an unequivocal 5 years and posted many times that this year's results will have no bearing on his retention, I never thought he was on any hot seat.

 

Which is exactly why the neg heads on this board need to stifle for the next two seasons. They will accomplish nothing but create a negative environment that hurts recruiting and the program. For whatever reason, they don't get that.

But I can hear them now: "My posts don't hurt the program!!! The recruits don't pay attention to what we say!!!"

All of which begs the question: if no one is paying attention, and you don't matter, then why post a bunch of negative crap?

They do not. They pay attention to what happens on the field and what other staffs tell them, both of which are entirely the HC's and his chosen staff's responsbility.

Poor performance on the field hurts. Negative recruiting by opponents hurts. AND fans negativity hurts. We could argue respective impact all day long, but to pretend our own fans cannot negatively impact our own efforts is nonsense (and to be clear, there IS a difference between reasonable discussion of performance vs repeated and non specific negative posting)
The only question becomes is, why defend or promote something that only serves to hurt a program you claim to want to succeed?

 

One of the top recruits we were going after last year specifically mentioned the negativity around the program as a reason he was hesitant to make the jump. We have seen parents and relatives on these boards.

The constant negativity can ONLY hurt. Trying to stay positive isn’t hurting anything.

 

Remember the days when the village idiots were ignored, and if needed, made to shut up by the village, or even shunned or exiled?

Now millions of village idiots have an internet loudspeaker and can't be silenced. Or exiled.

Yes, there was a lot of negativity but this board did not influence recruits, the results did. You can't win 10 games and make interested parties believe the sky is falling. You can win only 5 and do so.
