You can't look at these things in a vacuum, you have to consider context. In threads like these, that context should include the poster's posting history. In post #23, @citygator posted the applicable rule. The third paragraph is telling and I suspect it was instituted to minimize a flurry of BBB threads that were being posted....Blacks Behaving Badly. Those threads used to be quite blatant...Elderly White Woman Beaten By Black Felon...and they devolved into name calling pretty quickly. The rule has helped, but those threads still pop up, just more discreetly and not as frequently. I have my considered opinion as to the motivation for this thread, but I understand others may look at it differently.
Because the answer is obvious in the first 2 posts. 1. Why have you not heard the name Jonathan Lewis? Why has the media put it on the back shelf? 2. Why have there been no arrests? It is certainly a bigger story than the threads we have had about someone getting jailed for stopping a mugging on a NY subway. Heck if a Republican city councilman in some Arizona small town has an affair with a hooker we discuss it.
So you want to know why no one has been arrested. Cool. Looks like they have video what makes you think arrests aren’t coming? If you think the assailants on video will get away… Why?
Oh I am sure arrests are coming, I'm quite sure the 15 or so boys involved know this too. I hate to use the word thugs here because I know you guys don't like the word so I will substitute Angels for thugs. These are Angels and you know they think only of themselves. A lot of these little Angels probably have Angels for parents. You don't think some might try to leave town?
Once a victim dies, attempted murder charges are kinda bunk, correct? New charges would have to be filed given a change in the actual crimes committed. And my (likely half-correct or whole-wrong) understanding is that process would also involve the DA's office, with prosecutors even weighing in on charges filed. I think technically they could arrest the suspects before charges were filed if those filings were imminent. Add to that we're talking about legal minors, and it seems reasonable for that to take some time. If no one is charged in a couple more weeks, I'll agree that the delays seem fishy.
FYI Dad of Las Vegas teen beaten by mob defends cops' delay in arrest Just a guess I'm betting that there will be ample video evidence of the assault and murder. I'm sure that the attack was recorded on cell phones probably by bystanders and possibly by even one or more of the 15 perps.
I would not be so much concerned with flight as giving them more time to get stories straight, destroy evidence, and intimidate witnesses.
If the victim was Black and the perpetrators were White... not only would you have heard about it, but there would be riots in the streets and people would automatically infer race as a motive regardless of the evidence.
They...just....can't....help....it. And what, pray tell, were those "...slightly different in one of a couple of ways..."?
@GatorJMDZ Why the bacon here? How can you arrest someone FOR "murder" without a death? You can arrest someone for something else, but for someone to be arrested FOR "murder" wouldn't there have to be a death?
True. Fair. I don't think the timeline runs THAT quickly. Wouldn't the jury have to be sworn in for a jury trial for double jeopardy to attach? That certainly buys quite a bit of time. EDIT: I guess there could be a guilty plea at an arraignment, but even if that's the case, aren't assault and murder two different crimes? Wouldn't that fail to trigger double jeopardy for that reason even if it arises from the same set of circumstances? Honest question.
Perhaps the purpose of this thread is to note that just because a crime is committed across racial lines, perhaps we shouldn't infer racial motives, and perhaps we shouldn't treat this as some existential crisis because frankly this sort of stuff is going to happen every day in a diverse country of 300+ million people.
The post with bacon may have involved a hypothetical, but it was a hypothetical with a right and wrong answer. So I'd like to know the reason for it.
Sorry, we're only allowed to discuss Black grievance here. White grievance is to be sneered at and mocked because they can never truly be victims, even if they're beaten to death by 15 people... in which case the Too Hot hive mind gets mad at you for noticing and mentioning it.
They could all be charged as principals with whatever the local DA considers to be the appropriate charge. That's how getaway drivers and lookouts get charged.
