my reaction was to poster who said since there were so many nobody can be charged. Then another saying can’t charge anybody until victim is dead. There are posters falling all over themselves to distract from unpleasant optics of a mob of black kids killing a white kid.
You beat me to it. I mean this in as fair and unemotional way as possible. If a large gang of white young men had been captured on video beating a black young man into a coma (later dying), the police made no arrests while the young man was dying in the hospital, and police made a public statement that “We do not believe race played a role in this crime,” then, yes, I think that story would be threadworthy (if that’s a word). I have no question in my mind about it, and I think anyone who challenged whether the story was worthy of a thread would get — at best — a lot of responses such “Are you serious?”
That could very well be the case and is far more plausible than “Well, the victim wasn’t dead yet. Have to wait till he dies.” I think what undermines your theory a bit, though, is that the attack was on video. Sure, one can’t identify everyone in it, but with the video and other witnesses there’s enough to make arrests immediately in my opinion. You’ll get the ones difficult to identify when those arrested name them.
You nailed it. Both on the gun issue and the race of the victim and the group that beat him. When I saw this story a day or so ago I thought to myself "I'm not going to start a thread but someone will". This afternoon when the boy died I broke down and started the thread knowing if things were slightly different in one of a couple of ways this would already be a story here.
And we know how you are. Most of us already guessed there would be some sort of racial component to this thread since it was created by you and lo and behold, we were right.
I see you are being yourself as usual tonight Coop. First you rate VAg8r's photo of buffalo horn man he posted by mistake with a fistbump, now you try to put the blame of turning the thread political on somebody else.
Yes we know you only have sympathy when victims of these kinds of brutal attacks look a certain way. If it had been a black kid killed by a white mob, you’d be blaming him for his own death, just like you did with Emmett Till.
Instead of focusing on what post I liked, why don’t you mention my first post in this thread that condemned the miscreants of this brutal crime? You created this thread and immediately invoked race in the OP. You’re up to your usual antics as well, buddy.
Give it a break.....the last time you did this you made a complete ass out of yourself, most everybody agreed.
Well today you made an ass out of yourself taking this heinous crime/tragedy and turning it into your usual racial whine fest.
You mean like you giving a fistbump to a picture of buffalo man somebody posted in this thread by accident? BTW please show me where I was disrespectful in this thread.
I am not sure how I could have presented this story in a less offending way and still make a point. I guess I could have presented it that a boy was brutally killed by a bunch of bullies but the story itself mentioned race and yes I brought guns into it simply because this story was ignored by CNN and the MSM for 3 whole days.
ok geniuses. What was the OPs argument? There was none. That bullying is a problem? That white kids are being beat up for being white? What exactly is the argument? Maybe it was that the media doesn’t report on crimes of white victims while, get this, linking a news report? I have no idea. Maybe you do. Here’s the post again:
Let’s not get nasty. I’ll grant you, it’s not easy to read tone in a post, but my post was not meant in any kind of mean-spirited way. Apologies if I came across otherwise. Respectfully, I think it’s important when it comes to stories involving racial issues to reverse the parties in one’s own mind and ask oneself if they would still feel the same way. If the answer is yes, then proceed. If it’s not, I think some reflection is in order. In this case, as I stated, if the circumstances were reversed I wouldn’t question the relevance of the thread. So I don’t question its relevance here. If this was a group of white suspects with a black victim I would want them collectively charged with murder, and I would want hate-crime charges thrown on if there were any circumstances that suggested bias was involved, such as the perpetrators using racial slurs when they were beating him.
The Newsweek story I linked is actually titled Who is Jonathan Lewis? Las Vegas teen dies after school attack. My first line simply addresses the question asked in the Newsweek title, Who is Jonathan Lewis? If you guys want to label that a racist post go ahead. I'm through arguing with you fools. As for my parody of the Albert Camus quote in my Profile Signature, I don't know what you mean by copying it but it was simply my motto I used on my failed Appalachian Trail hike a few years back. I forgot it was even in there.
