Manchin can’t win. His biggest supporters are republicans and they aren’t electing him. Moderate democrats like me see Manchin as bought by big business and key in nearly derailing some of the positive work Biden has done. At least he isn’t crazy or almost 100 so I’ll grant you that.

Unfortunately thanks to the Electoral College the two party system is pretty much locked in stone. The presidency should be determined by the popular vote with a runoff if no candidate receives a majority or perhaps a minimum of at least 45% of the vote.

I think it was you that told us not so long ago that trump was no longer relevant. Politics takes some wacky swerves through history but Manchin ain't gonna be one.

Speaking only for myself no I didn't. Although the network would never acknowledge the reality (pun intended) NBC was at least partially responsible for Trump's election. Through its reality television shows starring Trump (the Apprentice and the Celebrity Apprentice) NBC was responsible creating the illusion that Donald Trump was some type of business genius when in fact he had six bankruptcies, a history of fraud and a history of stiffing creditors, contractors and employees. It's a sad commentary on American politics when a charismatic celebrity of with no political experience can be elected to the presidency.

He can’t win. “Working” means sinking some other battleship. Clearly this would be Biden. But not sure, as VA points out, that Manchin is that solid. He is constantly on flip-watch since he’s a moderate R.

In 2015? There was no evidence he would win the primaries in 2015 to my recollection.

Or, a third-party candidate wins, we have more of a centrist at the executive level, and the far-left and far-right have to come back toward the center where most of the country lives.

Trump was leading in the polls by July 2015.

Trump was leading in July 2015 but with 17% in a very crowded field.

Later in July he did make it up to 24%.
