I don't know. If we accept the idea that the courthouse shouldn't have been used or used for a message, that doesn't change the reaction to the song. Just Aldean's involvement.
Also, Aldean lived in Columbia for a few years, perhaps he should have known.

    NSFW ya'll. But funny.

And for the record, these songs ARE racist, differing degrees, but still racist. :D

My post was regarding the “riot”. For some folks the symbolism of using that courthouse struck a nerve.

Again, if it was just a random courthouse, just say it. “Sorry, we didn’t know” and leave it at that. Aldean has said that the song and the video are about how we need to return to small town community. Do you think the images in that video support a sense of community?

I’ve never heard of this cat before, yet I just spent 3 minutes of my day watching the video. Mission accomplished Jason Aldean’s management team.

I doubt JA had much say in the visual aspects except his appearance. Music videos are big productions with a lot of the specialized labor that cinematic movies had. Someone else made the decision to include the courthouse and probably didn’t know the background. I don’t like the implied violence of the lyrics or the reason behind them and that was JA’s decision. I tend not to appreciate violent songs.

How about this, we're not going to "start a conversation" about offensiveness, violence, and glorification of illegal activity from a Jason Aldean song of all things.

Much more low hanging fruit you can use to make a point, but you probably won't.

Seems like the right has already made that leap rhetorically speaking when it comes to how they portray their opponents, was literally what they ran on after Floyd.

No normal person should ever apologize for offending snowflakes who are pretending to be offended, particularly when the person did nothing wrong.

I wonder why. It doesn't look like that narrative came out of thin air to me.

Thanks to this thread, I now know one of the singers of the College Gameday theme song lives in Columbia, TN (Cowboy Troy)

Too add on to my earlier post, according to the statement released by the production company (tacklebox productions) this location was used for Hannah Montana and a Mario Lopez movie and that it’s a popular site due to proximity to Nashville. For what that’s worth

Not sure what the shred means there--guessing it's a typo (though I cant really figure from context what word is supposed to go there), bu t removing it, sure we can agree that killing someone who's done something legal isn't admirable, nor to be celebrated.

Now, can you show me here, where JA calls for 'killing', lynching or whathave you?

    Aldean sings:

“Cuss out a cop, spit in his face

Stomp on the flag and light it up

    Yeah, ya think you’re tough

Well, try that in a small town

See how far ya make it down the road

Around here, we take care of our own

You cross that line, it won’t take long

For you to find out, I recommend you don’t

Try that in a small town.”

Because if you're honest with yourself, to the extent that it can even be inferred as a 'threat'--it's a damn hollow one.

No more than keyboard cowboy bullshit you read every day on line.

...and don't pretend you didn't live through the 70's and 80's and before, where the expression "I'll kill you!" (which is literally an actual threat) wasn't thrown around as casually as "LOL!" is online, today.

Just stupid billy bad ass talk, that doesn't amount to anything, and even THAT, has to be inferred, and read INTO the lyrics, between the lines.

Guess ol' Merle was inciting violence here:

I hear people talkin' bad about the way we have to live here in this country
Harpin' on the wars we fight, an' gripin' 'bout the way things oughta be

An' I don't mind 'em switchin' sides, an' standin' up for things they believe in
When they're runnin' down my country, man
They're walkin' on the fightin' side of me

Yeah, walkin' on the fightin' side of me
Runnin' down a way of life our fightin' men have fought and died to keep
If you don't love it, leave it
Let this song I'm singin' be a warnin'
When you're runnin' down my country, man
You're walkin' on the fightin' side of me

I read about some squirrely guy who claims he just don't believe in fightin'
An' I wonder just how long the rest of us can count on bein' free
They love our milk an' honey, but they preach about some other way of livin'
When they're runnin' down my country, hoss
They're walkin' on the fightin' side of me
Yeah, walkin' on the fightin' side of me

Runnin' down a way of life our fightin' men have fought and died to keep
If you don't love it, leave it
Let this song I'm singin' be a warnin'
When you're runnin' down my country, man
You're walkin' on the fightin' side of me
Yeah, walkin' on the fightin' side of me
Runnin' down a way of life our fightin' men have fought and died to keep
If you don't love it, leave it

Let this song I'm singin' be a warnin'
When you're runnin' down my country, man
You're walkin' on the fightin' side of me

    Some more thought-provoking lyrics:

"Oh no, they'll never let go
Of something you said ten years ago
    They're canceling, canceling you
And they won't stop 'til everybody's zombified
They're pumping us with lies like it's formaldehyde
    We're dead inside
It goes on and on, let this go
When it stops, we'll never know
    We're hypnotized
And they won't stop 'til you're zombified
You better shut your mouth and bite your tongue
'Cause you don't wanna piss off anyone
We're traumatized by the damage done
    Welcome to America"

    "Zombified" by "Falling in Reverse"

Whether you like metal or not, these lyrics have more artistic value than like 90% of the soulless popular stuff that is produced nowadays.

What does this even mean? Nobody here is cancelling Aldean's song. CMT has the right to play it or not play it. Everyone should have the right to ascribe to the song's message or not. So again, what is meant by "leave others' music alone"?
