Ah true he wouldn’t count for last year I guess. For some reason I thought we hired him before that but you’re right. Anyway it would be a big get for him because even though he’s seen as a good personality for recruiting when we brought him on, he’s never had the juice of a school like UF to pull a 5 star.
Humphrey is a highly rated 4 star an nearly in the top 100 (103) so depends on what is meant by elite.
A BIG if, but IF we got Humphries, Singletary, and Thomas, and with the emergence of Burt at Friday Night Lights, it would seem that the switch of coaches did not hurt recruiting for us too much; we just shifted around the elite recruits. I don't claim to believe that Montinar is a great teaching coach, but the results on the field thus far suggest that the young db are picking up the offense and performing in the absence of some veterans.
No need to put Marco down. Marco wasn’t even Marco last year. Glad we have corners that are developing and can man that second corner spot. I like what I’m seeing from Marshall.
It seems like Georgia looks at a list of players we (UF) are recruiting and then targets those players. Ends up helping them by getting the recruit and hurting us in the process. We have got to start winning more of these battles especially with Florida kids.
I’ll say it again for those in the back, if you can’t keep five star recruits in state, your fb program is broken. Stop letting out of state schools cherry pick your HS talent. It’s embarrassing.
whats sad is I don’t expect this trend to change. The laundry list of misses on the recruiting trail, not even including IMG kids, is staggering.
The list of 4 and 5star croots getting pulled by OOS schools is depressing. We have done well with the portal but I dont want to rely on it.
Hard to not give Mullen a ridiculous side eye after abandoning Corral to get EJ at this point too. IMO basically every recruiting judgement call we’ve made has been wrong and we’re coasting off the brand completely at this point.
Not taking Terrion Arnold but instead Dakota Mitchell Everyone keeps talking about EJ but forget he also took a QB in 2019 in Jalen Jones who anyone with two eyes could see wouldn’t see the field at UF for years if ever.
It seems like his M.O. is to find the most athletic player out there that is terrible at reading the field (and thus less competition in recruiting) and hope he can teach them how to go through 2 reads before ditching the play to run it. I feel like it’s kinda disrespectful to how hard that skill is. Yeah you can’t teach speed but at a certain point you can’t teach someone how to make rapid read progressions when 300 lb DL are crashing on you. They have to have some of that skill set already and all the best prospects at this point have some combo of reading the field and athleticism. We just can’t get those.
I think your key point is coach doesn’t like to put in a ton of work and effort and likely the endless coddling and ass kissing you need to do to land the 5 star studded super talented and nearly ready to play and help your program qb.
