I don’t think you can transfer and play somewhere else mid season. He can enter the portal mid season as a grad transfer, but he can’t play somewhere else. He’ll have to sit the rest of this year. He’ll be eligible for ‘24.

It seems very odd unless he just got lapped and he quit. I’d lean toward something happened but we will probably hear no more about it. Hearing how Mullen’s staff may have smeared kids on their way out was bad pub. Guys leaving often have dirty laundry and you get guys like Cox but them leaving should be a red flag in the first place.

Even if he magically showed up and could play, he isn't a Deion, where you say "line up out there and cover whoever is across from you." He would have to learn what the defense is doing.

What I don't understand is, why call it grad transfer? It may be correct that he now has his degree, but until further notice transferring doesn't have any implications. A Fields doesn't have to get a lawyer to proclaim "racial hardship" or other nonsense. You want to leave, then leave.

Doesn’t seem like he got “lapped” as he was 1b to Hill’s 1a on this week’s depth chart. The rumors about him pointing a gun at a security guard at a bar is more probable.

I wish he would have asked his English TA to proof his text. Butchered the hell out of our poor little language. Good luck to him.

Grads can enter the portal whenever they want. Don’t have to wait for the window dates. That’s the reason for the distinction.

Another thing about transferring mid season, he still has to remain academically eligible. Can’t imagine you can work all that out mid semester. We’re past drop/add dates. He’ll have to finish out the academic semester here either way. He will be able to shop for his new school though which non grads would not be “allowed” to do. Whether that actually happens or not is another story.

But as I said, IF he can't play for a team this year just because he isn't up to snuff as to what he needs to know, why the distinction? He isn't going to play again this season.

If an undergrad announced they’re entering the portal today, they actually can’t enter until the portal window opens. They’re not allowed to be courted by other schools until they actually enter. As a grad transfer, he can enter and start talking to other schools immediately. That’s still not going to make him eligible to play somewhere else this season, but it is a relevant statement. It also means he won’t have to sit out a year (in addition to this year that’s already begun), as I believe he already used his freebie when he transferred here.

What I don’t understand is if rumors are true wtf was he thinking. Did he feel entitled enough that he thought that would fly?

I’m sure it was just an airsoft gun like the ones Toney and gang were chasing people through the park with.

Even if that’s remotely true that’s scary. A lot of people carry nonsirsifts these days and may not ask if yours is an air soft.

True, but even without that, he played a little more than a handful of snaps and managed to singlehandedly give up 15 yards by not knowing where he was assigned. Armstrong isn't going to accept that. JH was clear 1 at the position. Now we have to burn Denson's redshirt as the 2.

It seems like he would have been arrested though.

You can (and should) critique Napier about a lot of things, but this is one thing he got absolutely right.

Forget what the depth chart said, he only played 6 snaps.
