At least this guy will survive. During a traffic stop, the cop asked if he had any weapons and he said he was carrying a gun. So the cop made him get out of the car and reached in his pocket to take the gun, the gun goes off in his pants and hits him in the leg.

Why do we pass these laws allowing citizens to carry guns, then allow police to take your guns away anytime they encounter you? This was a minor traffic stop. He was cooperating. I wonder if the better route here is to hand your license, registration, insurance and say “I’m not answering questions right now, just give me the ticket?” to any questions.

I was waiting on this one. The lady cop just walked away and didn't even check on the man. Lady cops are an even bigger liability, IMO.

Yeah, I’ve watch a few police videos where cops remove guns from cooperative, legally carrying, citizens, by fumbling around in their pockets … and thought it was just matter of time before they accidentally shoot someone.

Not sure what being a “lady cop” has to do with it. Just another dumbass with poor training or not even following their training.

To be fair, if her first reaction to his mishap is pinning him down and ripping his pants off to assist, the bodycam footage would shut down the internet.

You'd have copycats all over TikTok.

I could be wrong, but I'm just remembering female cops having panic attacks when they are needed, faking fentanyl exposure ODs, and general incompetence. I guess that isn't necessarily exclusively a female cop thing.

I've also heard male cops say that women cops are frequently bullied by male cops to the point where they're either ineffective, or over compensate making bad arrests and/or use excessive force.

Also... "Be polite, don't argue, do everything the cops say and nothing bad will happen to you....."

I looked into this a little and one of the old requirements under the old “concealed permit” requirement was that you have to tell a cop you are carrying if directly asked. They could probably revoke your license if you refused. Now that Florida is permitless carry, not sure that applies. Why not just choose to remain silent if there are no consequences? Cops have to have reasonable cause to search you or your car, and exerting your rights doesn’t give them probable cause.

Having guns everywhere makes us safer.

Just compare the levels of violence and violence preparation (such as student lockdown drills) to other countries. Maybe like England, Australia or japan - they all have way more crime, murder, violence and gun deaths than we do.

Guns make us safer!!! It's so obvious!!

Guns make safer. Except for cops. Cops need to disarm all armed citizens they encounter, for their own safety. Makes perfect sense.

Not going to argue the negligence factor here on the part of the female LEO. Having said that, have any of you ever been in the same situation? Yes or no question. If the answer is no, then you do not understand the risk associated with encountering an armed individual you know nothing about. With the number of armed people out there, many of which who could care less about shooting an officer, or anyone else for that matter, what is the best way to handle a very delicate situation like this? The key factor in this situation is safety, safety for everyone. Given the number of violent people LEO's have to deal with on a daily basis, requesting the surrender of a firearm from an individual in question is not a big ask. The question is how to do so safely? Maybe we can have a discussion about that instead of this turning into the usual let's slam cops.

Your question is based on the premise that cops have to disarm everyone they encounter, even if they have no probable cause or even a suspicion, that the person is dangerous. Why is that true? If guns make me and you safer, why don't they make cops safer? Cops are paid to take risks. If armed cops are too scared to talk to legally armed citizens, then they should find a new job.

And to think there’s a certain contingent that thinks it’s a great, safe idea for schoolteachers to walk around a classroom full of children with a gun on their waist.

Autonomous cars = no more traffic stops. Send the traffic citation via email to the manufacturer.

Oh no. Those guns would be secured in a safe (that the schools cannot afford and that delays the teacher's ability to obtain said firearm in an emergency).

People that don't appear to be suspicious commit crimes all the time. I would rather disarm someone, empty the weapon and return it upon conclusion of the encounter, than be shot because the person didn't "appear" to be suspicious at a particular moment in time. I sure wouldn't want to be the officer that pulls someone over, discovers they have a firearm but does nothing about it, and then gets shot while I am looking at the driver's license and registration.

Radical maybe unpopular opinion- maybe it’s time to end traffic stops? Seems like it’s not worth it. Constantly bad press for cops. Move to technology enabled solutions?

In Oklahoma if you have a license to carry and have a gun in your car you have to disclose to the police if you have a traffic stop.
