What we need is a wall, with machine gun towers …. Jacksonville City Council votes for local immigration enforcement law
I dont pay much attention to Jax politics, but its only pretty recently they elected a Democratic mayor right? Along with Miami, usually one of the largest cities with GOP mayors.
We just elected a Dem mayor mainly because she was a former news anchor and had name recognition. We had a Dem Mayor not too far in the past though, 2015. Jax is very purple. But city council is very red and corrupt. The corruption on city council is not partisan, however.
It has an NFL team, I think it counts as a large city despite all of Duval county basically being 'the city of Jacksonville'
I have a friend working on the Uf campus project up there and he said the politics up there makes you want to pull your hair out. Not because of partisan stuff but because most of the council is just filled with stupid people that have no business in government.
The finest body of realtors, car & jetski dealership owners and small business tyrants ever assembled (no idea about their actual professions lol)
She was a celebrity too because of all the runs and stuff associated with breast cancer and divorced one celebrity to marry another.
Very true. But that all originated from her being on TV first. I've met her a few times. Super nice. She hasn't done much either way as a mayor for me to have much of an opinion, other than securing the Jags stadium deal.
She ran on a couple of platforms, one being to streamline and improve permitting. As a demolition contractor, I can say she has does nothing to improve it, its actually gotten worse. I permit jobs in other surrounding counties as well and they are so much better. Other counties approve permits same day if not, in a matter of days where Duval is weeks and they are proud and defend that timeline.
I hear you. The city makes it near impossible to accomplish anything timely. Unless you can pay a super expensive lobbyist who plays golf regularly with council members. Then you get stuff done.
Yeah, I know two or three of them who could get a McDonalds approved on a suburban cul de sac, or a 20-story high rise in a swamp
